Although the Donald Trump vs. Rosie O'Donnell fiasco dominated the mainstream entertainment news circuit last week --and continues to, now-- a story that peaked above the radar was that Beyonce was shut out of the Oscar race -- before the nominations were even announced.
For the ballad "Listen," which is serving as the unofficial theme for the critically acclaimed movie 'Dreamgirls,' the former Destiny's Child frontwoman won't qualify as a songwriter due to a fairly new Academy rule that limits the number of songwriters who qualify for a nominated song to three, reported 'The Los Angeles Times.'
As the world knows, the much lauded singer/songwriter stars in the lead role of Deena Jones in the Bill Condon-helmed adaptation of the legendary Broadway musical.
And although Beyonce sings her heart and soul out on the triumphant torch song, she is credited as a writer of the track, along with original Broadway scorer Henry Krieger, and Anne Preven and Scott Cutler.
But not according to the Academy. The rules that are in place state that only two people are "normally" given statues in the category. A third can only get a statue if the organization's committee deems them an equal contributor.
Though she's the face and the voice of the track (and a multiple Grammy Award winning songwriter), Beyonce just didn't make the cut.
And if you have her pappy tell it, there are no sour grapes.
"First of all Beyonce is very excited about the song "Listen" being nominated and is grateful to the Academy," Mathew Knowles told The BV Newswire.
"Although Beyonce is a writer on the song and adds life to the song with her vocal production, she is very respectful of the Academy's policies and procedures."
"Would she like to if the song 'Listen' won have the privilege to walk up and receive an Oscar? Who wouldn't! But again whatever decision made by the Academy she very much respects."
Well I guess he told us.
Some industry-ites believe that her being nominated for the song would be the closest she would come to being recognized by the organization -- that remains to be seen. Nominations are to be announced Jan. 23.
She and the other three writers are all nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for 'Listen,' however. She's also nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her stunning role in the movie.
In other Beyonce news, she's reportedly planning to release a spanish-language version of 'B-Day,' which was one of the top selling albums of 2006. "Irreplaceable," the hit song from the hip-pop hodgepodge is still #1 on the 'Billboard' charts after six consectuive weeks. The 'Dreamgirls' soundtrack is the biggest selling album in the country this week. And she was just announced as one of the performers of 'The 49th Annual Grammy Awards,' to take place Feb. 11.

Beyonce keeps getting caught in her lies. She said she wrote Irreplaceable recently and Neyo was just interviewed saying her wrote all the lyrics and she helped with the melodies only. Why would Neyo lie about such a thing? He is a bonafide songwriter.

She is doing just fine, i'm sure she has overcome more difficult hurdles than this in her lifetime of stardom. Eventhough i don't usually rock to her musical abilities or lack there of, besides shaking that bootie, she can handle this, may not be a great singer but she is mature enough to handle something small as this, hey beyonce, next album write all your own songs, work out on that computer and drum machine and take all of the credit.

Matthew Knowles did nothing but spit some "righteous PR" crap. I'm tired of this entire family and their greedy, holier than thou attitudes. Beyonce is BORING and soon she won't be able to do her elementary moves and "homegirl" songs anymore that'll appease the mainstream audience. She's gonna be booted out and will be left to shake her long fake blonde hair (wanna be white, yes white people see it) to the little black kids in Harlem. Continue to prove over and over to America and the world that no one's happy to be black Beyonce.
She's a true joke! As a white person, I appreciate Jennifer Hudson better!

It is so funny to read comments from some people about Beyonce, and see how mad it makes them whenever this girl can't be rattled. She is beautiful, super-successful, hard-working and has a loving family and I think that pisses haters off to no end! What, y'all mad because her/her family always have the perfect answer? Mad that she isn't sobbing in the street because she won't be nominated for an Oscar for Listen? PLEASE...the girl is happy and some of you need to just GET OVER IT! Go 'head Beyonce, with your bad self!

If a blonde weave means Beyonce wants to be white then what does tanning salons, lip injections, and butt implants say about white people?

All the Beyonce bashing is proof positve that when you are on top people want to see you fall. Black people should be proud that it's a black woman getting so much attention.. it's better than sitting around complaining that we never see any black images on tv or covers of magazines or at the top of the charts. I know i can't be the only "person" that see's it this way. Come on black america, we had it worse. Let's put more Beyonce's out there!! stop dragging us down !!!!!

Completely to Sade:
why as a "white person" must you appreciate Jennifer Hudson better? As a person period, I appreciate Jennifer Hudson better. The movie was clearly hers. However, sade, I believe you have crossed a line with your statements. And why would you make the statement "to prove no one in the world is happy to be black" further pushing it on Beyonce's appearance? I feel that you should re-evaluate your opinions of the Black race and statements before you spit your opinion. Your opinion of Beyonce's talent, I feel is totally justified, but then you delved into an area you have no right to speak on. Black people come in shades of all colors, some can be perceived as white and some the color of mahogany. I pride myself in the rich diversity of our race. Furthermore, I do not think beyonce wants to be white. As Dave Chapelle said, "I'm rich...B@#$%^"! Beyonce has the money, the honey blond looks good on her, and further more, she's RICH, mainly from being mainstream. So while I am not a huge Beyonce fan, I appreciate her enterprise and endeavors. And while her hair may be fake, her personality is not. And if you deem her as so boring, then why are you talking about her? Maybe you are jealous of her long, fake, blond hair!

I agree...I know everyone is entitled to their have their own opinion but Sade...That comment was bold...Why is itthat when black people wear weave in their hair...and dont let it be blonde...Or that if we
straighten our hair it means that we are trying to be white???...It aint even like that...If Beyonce was trying to be white, she would have blue contacts in her eyes to go along with her blonde hair and would not be bouncing her black booty in her videos...And if she is trying to "Be White"...who cares??? Beyonce is doing her thang...and you may not like her music or her performance in Dreamgirls but that doesn't mean you attack her character...I was not a Beyonce fan at first...I thought she was fake and a hog for attention, but I admire her now cuz the girl doin her thang...We categorize everyone into stereotype and if they step out of their stereotype then they are being someone their not...Stop hating!!! As far as not being happy being black...I talk proper and people call me white...but I am proud to be Black!!! And just because someone says that all Black people talk "ghetto"(which isn't true)doesn't mean that im tryin to be anything other than myself... Im Black 24/7 and love every minute of it!!! Cuz thats how God wanted me and if anyone has a problem with it their gonna hafta take that one up with God...Good luck!!!

I truly can not believe that you all are hating on Beyonce this extensivley. That is very sad, and not just because she's a successful black woman. But because she's a woman.
I swear when someone is on top of their game, you can't wait to see them fall, Why? Because your life is pitiful and pathetic. You aren't successful, so anyone who's doing something right just pisses you off. That's a shame and you should seek treatment for that.
Beyonce is the shit. Back then and now. And she does it all with class grace and a smile on her face. She's talented. Get over it.
She is the hottest thing out there right now, and the most positive influence that young girls have to look up to.
She's not out smoking weed, doing drugs and being a hoe sleeping with every man in the industry.
You all need to get a clue.
