The fast rising TV One Network is celebrating its third anniversary in a very special way on Jan. 14.
On the eve marking the third year of its official airing, the black-centric digital cable network will air the premiere of the fourth season of 'The Gospel of Music with Jeff Majors,' featuring late R&B crooner Gerald Levert in his very last television performance.
Levert died at the age of 40 on Nov. 10, 2006 of an apparent heart attack. (Read story.)
In keeping with the theme of the inspirational programming, the man many knew to be an R&B balladeer -- who didn't leave much to the imagination with his suggestive lyrics -- will go the gospel route.
On the special episode, Levert performs a stirring song of praise with gospel songbird, Coco McMillan and later joins harpist and host, Jeff Majors for another unforgettable performance.
"We were all so stunned by Gerald's passing," Majors told The BV Newswire today.
"What makes it even more difficult for me is we had just finished a truly wonderful project," he reflected. "I wrote a song called 'Beggar' especially for Gerald that will be released on my new CD and that he sang on Gospel of Music, one of his last live appearances."
"Gerald told me he was really touched by the song and that it would raise the consciousness of homelessness," he continued, adding, "he was remarkable. There will never be another voice like Gerald's. We will truly miss him."
The show will also feature performances and behind-the-scenes interviews with long lost soul diva, Angela Winbush; promising Prince protégé, Tamar and a Gospel Great Tribute to Marie Knight.
The season premiere airs at 8 PM, and repeats at midnight.
Other special TV One programming for Sunday will include the premiere of a new episode of 'TV One on One' where host and network chief Cathy Hughes interviews acclaimed thespian Danny Glover; and the original series 'Black Men Revealed,' hosted by comedian David Arnold, featuring conversations with African American men of all ages discussing their true feelings about a host of issues, specifically male/female relationships.

As of today 1/12/07 I am glad to see that Geralds name and private bussness has not been put in the mud like the James Brown mess.
