The BV Newswire has learned that the world's famous Apollo Theater is planning a special tribute to late, great soul pioneer James Brown.
The famed venue where he kicked off his legendary career, and where he was first laid to rest during an emotion-filled memorial last month, will commemorate the legacy to Brown with a special posthumous induction ceremony during its 3rd Annual Spring Benefit on June 11.
During the glitzy fundraising event, the world renowned Godfather of Soul will be inducted into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame and an all-star tribute concert.
"The format of the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame was originally to include three inductees as we did for the 2006 Spring Benefit, but we decided that James Brown was such an integral part of this Theater that we had to honor him and only him this year," Jonelle Procope, President & CEO of The Apollo Theater Foundation, Inc. told The BV Newswire today.
"The Apollo Theater was always a part of Mr. Brown's rich musical legacy from the beginning to the very end and he is definitely a huge part of ours. We absolutely had to do it this way - for him."
The talent line-up hasn't been confirmed as of yet.
Last year's ceremony featured performances by Little Richard, Chaka Khan and Gladys Knight.

There could never be too much commemoration for the Godfather of Soul. James Brown's stature in life was enormous, and we will always reciprocate his greatness in death, because a giant has fallen, but his legacy will forever be alive.
James Brown will always be loved and will remain a part of us, just as he did in life.

I've had the pleasure of working at Mr. Browns former radio station in Augusta Ga...then I felt the magic and charm of the legend he bore to many throughout. It is without question Mr. Brown was and will always be "One Who Walk With Kings".

I frist met James Brown in 1956 at the Booker T. Washington Hotel in San Francisco Ca. He had just made his first hit song, Please Please. We became immediate friends. He was like a brother to me.That friendship lasted until 1960 when I moved to Los Angeles. I tryed desperately to get back in touch with him but was never able to due to the protection that he had around him, which was quiet understandable. I will always remember him and cherish the time that GOD allowed us to share. He was the kindest man I ever met in my life. I have always been so hurt about all the bad publicity that was put out about him. I no that time brings about a change in everyones lives, but to know the James Brown that I knew, there is no way that his life could have changed that much. I Love you MR.B., you will always be in my heart and in my mind. May You Recieve the Peace that you so richly deserve in the arms of our HEAVENLY FATHER. Will look forward to seeing you when I get there.
Your Little Sis &Friend Always,
G.G.
