Tyra Banks may be gracing the cover of next week's 'People' magazine --with a splashy story about what's considered "fat"-- but the fashion icon and television titan will be recognized for her greatness for her community work.
On Jan. 28, Banks will be honored with the 2007 "Dream Keeper Award" from the I Have A Dream Foundation -- Los Angeles.
The event, hosted by actress Jennifer Garner, will take place at the Sunset Strip House of Blues in Hollywood.
Hollywood producers Debra Martin Chase ('The Cheetah Girls') and Silvio Horta ('Ugly Betty') are also honorees at the ceremony, which is presented annually to members of the community who share the foundation's vision of a strong commitment to mentor and foster the academic development of at risk children in Los Angeles.
The recipients of the "Dream Keeper Awards" are celebrated, as well as the honor and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whose words inspired the "I Have a Dream" movement.
Founded in 1987, the I Have a Dream Foundation - Los Angeles has helped fulfill the academic dreams for over 1,000 Dreamers, sponsored students, in the Los Angeles area.

I think this is an honor for Tyra to get this award. Tyra has not only helped her community, but people who aren't even part of the LA area. I find Tyra motivational and she helps peopole over come the barriers in trying to make something of themselves, and provides knowledge to those who may lack that there of. I know there were many times that I have watched her show and I learned something that I've never known before. With that said, I want to say good luck to Tyra, and her Award. Keep up the good work.

Dido to everything that girl just said and also it's wonderful to a star of Tara's magnitude that not only keeps it real with herself but as well with others. I'm happy she's not afraid to eat.....unlike the others in their sickly looking bodies. Tara has always been a good rold model among young woman everywhere. Plus I admire her business sense she knew that in her line of work woman are often tossed aside after they have reached a certain age however she has managed to go find the next hot thing whether then to sit around wait and be replaced. " You GO TARA!!!!!"

TYRA-
May God bless her on all her endeavors!! There are a few good celebrities who give back by starting organizations and actually being a continual part of their success by actually being involved with visits weekly or monthly to check their organization progress! Tyra has an organization called T-Zone for girls which boosts their self-esteem and gives them academic opportunities for less fortunate youths!! I give her all my hugs and prayers to show support for her caring demeanor which is wonderful in a modern world based on greed!!How many people today remember to just say, "THANK YOU"? We should never take kindness for granted!! Proud of her and the authors who are willing to recognize a good heart and a caring person with great values!! Also for the little girls- you can still be beautiful at 175 lbs, just watch your diet, late night (no bedtime snacks) and limit your sweets! Best wishes to all and have a blessed day! Thank you for allowing the humble voice to be heard!

I think it is great what TYRA is doing. She is an awesome person and I respect her very much. She has wonderful goals and morals.
On a side note, the girl "Valarie Gibson" who commented before seems very supportive of Tyra Banks, but I wonder if you realize, Valarie, that her name is in fact Tyra and not Tara. You did refer to her as Tara 3 times in your comment. Well, just so you do not look dumb next time, try and spell her name correctly. It is really not that difficult especially since there is an article on this page clearly spelling Tyra's name.
