On the surface, Senegalese singer/songwriter/producer Akon doesn't fit the typical prototype of an international pop sensation -- with his unconventional looks and dodgy legal background.
Yet, mainstream music audiences can't get enough of it.
With a hit album in stores and a brand new single at the top of the charts, Akon recently announced dates to join multiplatinum pop personality Gwen Stefani on her forthcoming tour, "The Sweet Escape Tour."
Presented by telecommunications giant Verizon, the 40 city trek will kick off April 22 at Coors Amphitheatre in San Diego, California, and concludes on June 23 at Irvine, California's Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. Tickets for the Live Nation-produced jaunt will go on sale nationwide on Feb. 10.
Akon collaborated with Stefani on the track "The Sweet Escape," a the hit title track from her sophomore solo album.
British hip-hop act Lady Sovereign is also confirmed for some of the dates.

He is uniquely beautiful. Why? Not because he doesn't possess the quote unquote image of society ideology of what is beautiful. You see this man he represent that transition that a lot of women pray for in their current man or past men. What do I mean? Well, you see he is the bad guy turned good guy, the truth that the bad guy can really change. He has taken adversity and has turned it into positive, not just any positive but a diverse positive that seems to appeal to the likes of all women, of all races and ethnic backgrounds.
He is also the hope of the bad guy that he to can do good, that he to has something worth giving to this world. The truth that talent exist in all things. I am so proud of him and honor to be in his presence. What I mean is far greater then meeting him in person I have yet to have that honor (But I will keep wishing LOL) You see through his music he has inspired so many, when you watch him during interviews you feel his humbleness, and ladies this man loves his Momma and it don't get no sexier then that...Whew Wee!!!!
Hats off to AKon and may the Creator continue to bless him on this chosen journey, and may he continue to let his talent take him to places that his mind has always dreamed of, may he continue to inspire us all by showing us that everyone who dreams and believe that he or she is better then where they are now will someday be the dream that leads the mind of another sleepless dreamer. Stay beautiful AKON.

I WAS TURNED ON TO AKON BY MY 18 AND 19 YEAR OLD CHILDREN. AND I AM HOOKED!!!! I PLAY HIM ALL THE TIME!!! THIS MAN HAS A VOICE OF A DREAM. MOST IMPORTANTLY, IT IS GREAT TO READ AND WATCH AN INDIVIDUAL COME FROM A BACKGROUND OF PROBLEMS AND COME FORTH AND MAKE SOMETHING POSITIVE OF HIS LIFE.
