She may have been making a name for herself with a recent slew of high-powered acting projects, but Macy Gray is getting back into the swing of things -- on the music front.
On March 27, the Grammy Award winning artist will release her long-awaited new album titled 'BIG.'
This go round, the Avant-garde Alterna-soul diva isn't associated with Sony Music Group's Epic Records (where she became a crossover pop success); the opus will be released through the will.i.am music group, distributed via Geffen Records.
According to a label rep, the 12-track set --recorded mostly at The Record Plant in Los Angeles -- will include collaborations with a motley mix of top-notch talent, including Justin Timberlake, Natalie Cole, Nas, Ron Fair, Jared & Whitey, and label-mate Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson.
Will.i.am, the front man for the hip-pop band Black Eyed Peas, will helm the production of the project.
Sounds like fun.
Born Natalie McIntyre in Canton, Ohio, Gray first burst onto the music scene in 1999 with her debut release "On How Life Is" and the massive hit single "I Try." The album went on to sell 7 million copies worldwide and Macy won a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
Subsequent albums failed to ignite the same spark with mainstream music listeners, but Gray successfully transcended into that acting profession with memorable roles in Antoine Fuqua's 'Training Day,' 'Lackawanna Blues,' 'Shadowboxer' and 'Idlewild.'

I saw Macy's special preview of her new cd "Big" on Directv last night and it was off the chain. The songs were soulful, very melodic and you couldn't help but move, sing, hum or do something as you listened. I already have two of her cd's and cannot wait to get this one. I especially like 'Finally Made Me Happy', 'Shoo Be Doo' and 'What I Gotta Do'. I too, thought she was very good in Lackawanna Blues, and I am very happy that she's back on the scene, musically, with the release of "Big". I think she is definitely special from the first time I heard her sing. Welcome back girl and keep doing your thing.
