Armed with a string of major award wins and an Academy Award nomination, 'Dreamgirls' star Jennifer Hudson is becoming a mainstream media darling for sure.
Already gracing the cover of best-selling black women's magazine 'Essence,' the 'American Idol' cast-off will reportedly grace the cover of 'Vogue' magazine.
Today, fashion newspaper 'WWD' reports that the plus-sized Chicago born powerhouse will be the cover subject of the legendary fashion industry bible's 'Power' issue.
"Hudson was photographed by Annie Leibovitz at the Apollo Theater as part of a seven-page photo essay inside, but the chances of one of those photos ending up on the cover were high even before Hudson won a Globe late last month. But, presumably, her win helped seal the deal," reports Stephanie D. Smith. "Vogue has featured only two African-Americans on its cover since December 2002 - Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry and model Liya Kebede."
And then there was all that drama that the magazine's longtime editrix Anna Wintour reportedly put media mogul Oprah Winfrey through to lose weight for her big cover shot in the late 1990s.
My, oh my have times changed.
I wonder what Hudson had to endure -- she has been spotted and photographed over the past few months with the magazine's Editor At Large Andre Leon Talley, who is presumably an instant fan of hers.
Perfect timing for 'Vogue' -- this month is Black History Month.
Next month is Women's Herstory Month.
On Feb. 25, Hudson may win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

I think that it is wonderful that J-Hud will be on the cover of Vouge! I know that Mr. Knowles is working OT to sabotage this one. It is about time that we start to see more "real women" on the covers of these magazines.

I am very proud of Jennifer Hudson. The year that she appeared on American Idol I predicted that she would win but when she got kicked off I stopped watching the show. Although, she eventually proved them all wrong. By no means am I a music expert but I know good singing and I know a good singer when I hear one ( everyone who sings can't sing ) But Jennifer is a true singer. God Bless Her!

venus and serena were on the cover of ELLE, they have NEVER in their beeon on or featured in Vogue, no athlete has they are deemed to amsculined looking for the publication. I know that Beyonce campaigned for the cover in December while Dreamgirls was out, but it didn't happen. Beverly Johnsone was the first Black woman on the cover of Vogue.

I thought, Donyale Luna, was the first Black woman on any Vogue? I'm very proud of Jennifer making the cover though, I would have liked Mary J Blige to meet that milestone but, our standards are so low, we'll take what we can get.
BTW: Donyale was first BLACK supermodel and she's so over looked.

JHud has always been my favorite Idol and I also stop watching the show after she mistakely voted off. I am very proud of her success and long forward long career of pleasurable music and heart stopping vocals. However, I think people and the media should stop putting her against Beyonce. They are both beautiful women, great singers and very talent in their own right. The black community should embrace and rejoy that we have not 1 put 2 beautiful sisters taking hollywood by storm. So, please keep the street, hating mentallity out of discussion about Jennifer and Beyonce, but of these worked really hard to get where they are and don't believe either of them dislikes the other - it's just getto garbage... sadly to say typical of black people!

Revised: JHud has always been my favorite Idol and I also stop watching AI after she was wrongly voted off. I am very excited about her success and look forward to a long career of pleasurable music and heart stopping vocals. However, I think people and the media in general should stop putting her against Beyonce. They are both beautiful young women, great singers and very talented in their own right. The black community should embrace and rejoy that we have not 1 but 2 beautiful sisters taking hollywood by storm. So, please keep the street hating mentallity out of discussions about Jennifer and Beyonce, but of these women worked really hard to get where they are and I personally don't believe either of them dislikes the other - it's just getto garbage gossip... sadly to say typical of black people!
