VH1's celebrity weight loss competition 'Celebrity Fit Club Men vs. Women' is set to premiere April 22 at 9 PM.
And as you may already know, this season's cast includes 'The Brady Bunch' star Maureen McCormick, 'Saved by the Bell's very own Dustin Diamond, 80s pop starlet Tiffany, country music crooner Cledus T. Judd, groundbreaking former hip-hop superstar Da Brat, 'The Tonight Show' personality Ross "The Intern" Mathews, former West Coast chart-topper Warren G, and 'American Idol' fave Kimberley Locke.
For its fifthseason, producers mixed things up a bit, turning it to a gender race.
According to a show spokesperson, "this season is more about getting fit than shedding pounds as none the cast is more than 40 pounds overweight but that doesn't mean the drama is any less weighty. This spring will have them embarking on their own grueling fitness journeys while also working together to reach their fitness goals."
Though there's a new psychotherapist, Dr. Stacy Kaiser, in place, drill sergeant Harvey Walden IV (and his big, juicy lips) are back in the fray, along with the dapper and debonair nutritional and diet expert Dr. Ian Smith.
"I will say that this is the most successful season we've ever had in terms of the number of celebrities who've hit their target," Smith revealed to AOL Black Voices producer Angela Bronner, while making the rounds promoting his new book 'Extreme Fat Smash Diet.'
"There are always problems," he continued, "but they overcome their problems and become inspirational to everybody who's watching. Because they have problems just like you and me and that's the beauty of it. That people you hold on a pedestal, that you've watched for many years, you come to realize, they can't stop that urge at night also. Or it's hard for them to get to the gym, so they have the problems we do."
"The instructive part of the show is that we help them overcome it with a vision that the viewers are also watching the methods so they can do the same thing," Smith concluded.
Well put Good Doctor.

what kind of crock a shit is this? none of these people are grossly obese like in seasons before. this makes no sense. they can get moniques fat ass and randy jackson up on this show. they both need to lose weight like its nobodys business. and definitely aretha. that bitch is 65. its amazing that shes still walking around with that big ole tub she's carrying in her midsection.

I think your statements were pretty harsh. I know thin people who aren't able to make it up a flight of stairs without being winded. As stated, this season is about being fit and healthy which is way more important than numbers on a scale.

I agree your comment was harsh refering to neicy. If you think about it we all are over weight based on our height. If it doesn't match by the least little bit, we are considered over weight. Some of those you talked about are my favorite artist. We all struggle and I happen to love the fact that monique is comfortable in who she is.

"NEICEY" what's up with all the negativity -- you don't know these people. Maybe you should go back and read the article again. They did say this time the focus will be on fitness and health, due to the fact that none of the participants are more than 40lbs overwieght and their major problem is getting to the gym. From what I understand, Mo'Nique is healthy and happy, she does work out. Just because she's not a size 2 and she's in the industry doesn't mean that she has to conform to any particular image. Perhaps Mo'Nique, Randy and Aretha could stand to lose some pounds, that's their decision -- Don't drown in the "HATORADE" you're spilling!!!

First of all let me begin by saying that Neicey need to stop being so angry what does she have against Aretha and Monique? ( sounds like u have some issues darling) and also your filthy mouth on Easter Sunday. Whoever wants to improve themselves whether it's physically or mentally you go and do the damn thing; and do you know just because your thin doesn't mean that u don't have any health problems. Who knows Aretha and Monique cholesterol and blood pressure and whatever illness is probaly better than yours. Lighten up girl and look at the woman in the mirror.
Smile JESUS loves U.

It is good to see Kimberely Locke and Da Brat on the show and I am glad that Dr.Ian plans on coming to Maryland so that African Americans can be healthier.

As someone who has been overweight throughout almost all of my life, I'm thrilled to see "Celebrity Fit Club" has returned! I've lost 125 pounds and I'm struggling with those stubborn, last five to ten pounds. Maybe this season's episodes can help me.
I don't believe in trash-talking or bad-mouthing celebrities. Calling Aretha and Mo'Nique fat makes no sense. If public opinion could change others, we'd all be perfect!:-)
