Revered clergyman Bishop T.D. Jakes is joining the likes of Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton in denouncing the racist remarks that nationally syndicated radio talk show host Don Imus made about the Rutgers University basketball.
Jakes is the senior Pastor/Founder of The Potter's House of Dallas, Inc, -- the largest black church in the region -- a best-selling author, recording artist and television personality.
This afternoon, the holy man who 'Time' magazine dubbed 'America's Best Preacher' in 2001, released a thought-provoking statement, which in essence, asks for a form of protest to take place.
"Trying to be funny" is a justifiable excuse for calling a group of distinguished young African-American women "nappy-headed [whores]," or so says radio talk show host Don Imus about his racial slurs April 4 toward the young ladies of the Rutgers University women's basketball team. Given that Imus and his producer are still employed, one must assume that NBC, their employer, agrees. With this attitude, is it any surprise that racism continues to poison America?
Jesus taught that "What goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean,' but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean.'" (Matthew 15:11 NIV) The fact remains that Imus' unprovoked racial slurs -- which sadly appear to be part of a personal pattern over the years -- clearly reveal a deeper malignancy of the heart. But it is the lack of immediate and meaningful response by his employer that reveals a deeper cancer in America.
Press statements and public appearances are mere bandages when someone's daughter is called a whore for fun. True healing will come only when individuals honestly address the root of their remarks, rather than making excuses for them, and only when employers and advertisers in our society respond immediately and decisively. Hall of Fame baseball player Cal Ripken immediately canceled his forthcoming appearance on Imus' show; others should do the same.
Imus is a broadcast industry professional, who I hold to a higher standard. Imus' employers are broadcast conglomerates that I also hold to a higher standard. And the advertisers that spend millions on Imus' show should also be held to a higher standard. Allison Gollust, senior vice president for news communications at NBC, has stated: "We take this matter very seriously." If so, Imus and Bernard McGuirk should be unemployed today and the excuses should stop, so that the healing can begin.
On behalf of decent moral people of all backgrounds, and specifically for women of color, we heard the so-called joke. But now the entire media, advertisers and industry executives should deliver the punch line.
Jakes (nee Thomas Dexter Jakes, Sr.) is a Charleston, West Virginia native founded the 10-member Greater Emmanuel Temple of Faith in West Virginia.
Today, he helms The Potter's House, a multiracial, nondenominational church with more than 50 active outreach ministries.

No one is without stain. Each and everyone of us as said or did something that we shouldn't have. Should we be fired? So many people are talking about what Rev Jesse Jackson did and the other black voices of today. Has you closet be squeeky clean? Is there anything in there? Now what Imus said was wrong but what did we exspect? When our own people don't respect our ownselves how do we exspect anyone to respect us? Sure you'll get paid alot more money for calling yo momma, yo sista, yo auntie, and the mother of your children a bitch, a whore and so on. Although I don't take comments like that personally. I know whos and what I am. But we as a people knew that this was coming. Our own Black Men don't respect us Black Women and they get paid stacks full of paper to say it. Not much is said about it. There may have been some rufflling of the feathers. But as soon as a white man says the samething that our Black men are saying, there is an immediate problem.
As for the women at Rutgers, keep your head up. Don't let the comment of one person keep you from you goals and dreams. God Bless.

I would like Bishop T.D. Jakes to help me stop the FBI from harassing me. It has gone on for 20 plus years, and I am getting old. I want it to stop, and I am willing to do something about it. I hold two Ph.D. degrees. If I were a drug addict on a street corner selling drugs to kids, the FBI would not even bother to harass me. Every job I get, the FBI appear and then my life changes right before my eyes. I teach at Temple University, and the FBI has done everything it can to make me want to quit.
I am tired. The FBI has burned various parts of my body, using its technology. You can see the obvious burns on my legs, chest, face, and my back. They have gotten so used to my doing nothing that they have no fear of my saying anything to anyone.
I can be reached at 484-461-7099. I live at 327 Wayne Avenue, Lansdowne, PA 19050. I am a fellow of the American Psychological Association. What brought me to the attentionn of the FBI was that I dated a Black Muslim during the 1960s. I have never been a Black Muslim, and I have never even been inside of a Mosque. I am a Christian, and I was raised as an AMEZion.
I watched on television the Rutgers Basketball team, and I saw the outrage of decent people at what Imus say to them. If the FBI only said something to me, I could tolerate words. I am tired, and I am asking for your help.

Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton do not represent me as a Christian black american woman. I first wanted to state that.
Secondly, I agree that Imus' remarks were disgusting and he deserved to be fired HOWEVER, I also agree that the RAPPERS that use the same language and other such words to describe women should be stopped. In addition, the women who allow themselves to be violated and disgraced by participating in those disgusting videos should be stopped as well.
We can't be one sided and attack a white man for racist remarks when there are black men using the same language and treating women of color as animals.

Imus is a nuisance, who has passed.
He was also an easy target, which opportunists Al and Jesse picked off as an easy mark -- the better to avoid serious issues.
Major black issues we should be addressing:
1. High crime in the black community
2. Growing single parent black homes
3. The Iraq war
4. Sudanese aggression on the blacks of North Africa
5. Black educational disparity
6. AIDS in the black community

Billy sr. & debbie Scherer Allow their Children To call African-American Children fron Sept.11 To Call Them "Those Niggers Deserve To Die With Their Parents" and Coutinue To call all African-American Woemn and Children Unitelligent and our Children are So Much Superior To Those Children and any Other Chilren in this Whole Tri-State Area! Basically we as a Community Had Enough with their Racial Slurs as they Laugh at it with Their Kids and Their Attitude is their is nobody can do anything to them! look I understand Its a Free Country to say what you want to say! But as NBC proved they ate 15 Million Dollars In revenue To not Tolerate those Racial Slurs and 9/11 hatered towrds Innocent people Because they think they can get away with it! I dont tolerate and my Family never taught me to tolerate! In fact I was raised to Affialate myself and Associate Myself with my Sister To make freinds with all people of Race and Creed! No Matter if it's African-American,Hispanic,Jewish,Itilain & etc. we make friends and Date if it works out that way with any race & Creed! Per Jimmy Z!!!
