Spoiler Alert!!!
On the May 7 episode of 'Girlfriends,' Joan (played by Tracee Ellis Ross) will get a long awaited marriage proposal on what is being billed as a special one-hour finale.
The production notes, obtained by The BV Newswire, didn't indicate specifically if the two-part show was a "series finale" or "season finale" -- just "finale."
Hmmmm.
In its groundbreaking 7th season, the Mara Brock Akil created vehicle has held its own on the new network, The CW.
Even without one of its main draws -- the character Toni Childs who was expertly played to the hilt by Jill Marie Jones -- 'Girlfriends' remains a ratings juggernaut. (The former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader didn't return to the show, reportedly after contract negotiations broke down.)
And sources hint that the powers that be want more of where that came from.
While Akil's new show, a supposed 'Girlfriends' spin-off 'The Game' -- starring Tamara Mowry, Wendy Racquel Robinson and newcomer Pooch Hall -- is showing signs of potential, it still needs an anchor to lead in from in order to have a successful second season.
After six years of fronting the Kelsey Grammar-produced show, Ellis Ross recently won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series. To the Black Glitterati, the coveted honor is equivalent to an Emmy Award, which most of the winners are never submitted as nominees for by their networks.
With increased media attention during the past year -- including television talk show appearances and magazine covers -- Ross (daughter of music icon Diana Ross) also landed roles in Tyler Perry's 'Daddy's Little Girls' and Queen Latifah's HBO drama 'Life Support.'
A CW spokesperson would not confirm whether or not 'Girlfriends' will return in the fall.
The official fall line up will be announced at the network's New York Upfront presentations May 17.

I think that they should bring her best girlfriend back! they have been friends since childhood. You can't just wipe that out. That's too many years of friendship to be gone like that.

I really hope that Girlfriends continues to grace our television airwaves because the writing is extraordinary, and the characters embrace their roles so that real life messages about our African American lifestyle can be understood and enjoyed by all races. Thanks for keeping it real Girlfriends, and Blackvoices thanks for noticing.

I ENJOY GIRLFRIENDS BECAUSE ITS A FUNNY SHOW WITH REALISTIC TOPICS AND THEY CAN AGREE TO DISAGREE AND STILL SUPPORT EACH OTHER (SMILE). I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING THIS SHOW NEXT FALL WITH ALL THE TALENTED PEOPLE WHO WORK SO HARD TO KEEP THE WEEKLY SHOW ALIVE. GOD BLESS THE CAST AND CRUE.

I think they should bring Joan best friend back for the wedding, Let Joan feel what she had put Toni Childs through, and a make up too, Let Todd exeplain that she's better then Joan, to let it go, and be the better woman. Let Joan eyes pop!and Toni finally learns Jabari name. end it with a BANG!! Lil Shorty~

I really miss Toni Childs, she was the show, with the rest of the ladies to me! But whatever! It is about time that Joan gets this proposal, because I am tired of seeing her protrayed as Ms. Desperate.
I wish the cast the best of luck, and hope that they continue the show, but if they don't, I hope all the cast land something else great, as for William, I hope that whatever he does,he has a beard & mustach...
Good Luck To You All, and God Bless You

I really hope they don't end Girlfriends I love that show all my friends love that show. I think Joan getting married is all good but they can still keep the show rolling, We have to see Lynn blow up in the music biz, Maybe Joan or Mya can have a baby and link back up with Toni Childs. I miss her being on the show she brought a special energy to it.
They have a lot of things they could still do with the show and i hope it doesn't come to an end.

Please bring Toni Childs back. The show is still good but not the same without her. Each girl brought a certain something to the show and in my opinion, without her, there is just something missing. Think about it.
