Beyonce and Rihanna better make way.
There's a new R&B chanteuse on the block.
And she has the power of Jay-Z behind her.
Chrisette Michelle is Def Jam's newest signing and will release her soulful, jazz-influenced debut album, 'I Am,' on June 19. According to a label rep, the set features collaborations with 10-time Grammy Award winner Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, as well as hit-makers, will. i. am, John Legend and Salaam Remi.
The 24-year-old Long Island native, who has recently appeared on albums by Nas and Jay-Z, knocked label brass off their feet during a personal audition. Even Antonio "L.A." Reid has taken notice. "When Chrisette Michele enters a room, the room becomes a better place," he said.
And the buzz is building. Four of her tracks are available on her MySpace page, with one, titled 'Your Joy' -- a touching ode to her father -- has been heralded as the "Single of the Week" on itunes on May 15.
Though she doesn't want to be stereotyped as a Neo-Soul artists, comparisons to some of the biggest names in the genre still occur. She's not fazed by it.
"I'm excited about finding my place amongst young composers like Alicia Keys and Jill Scott," she said. "My goal from the moment I was signed, was to create a seamless album that mixes soul and pop in a way that will have people coming back again and again."
National audiences will get a chance to experience Michelle's flow when she heads out on a month-long tour with platinum-selling Neo-Soul crooner Musiq Soulchild, beginning July 6 in Baltimore. Tour dates below.

I don't even listen to Beyonce or any of these newer singers. In my opinion, no one will ever replace the divas of my day when I was growing up. Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, and Mariah Carey will always be my 3 favorites. Beyonce does absolutely NOTHING for me. As a matter of fact, I turn the TV off when Beyonce is on because I'm sick of her overexposure. Beyonce or any of these new starlets can't even touch Janet, Mariah, and Whitney. And throw Anita Baker in there too. Anita Baker is another great one. Remember "Sweet Love" and "Same Ole Love"? Umm, need I say more? And to this day, Janet Jackson is the ONLY artist EVER to produce 7 Top 5 singles from the SAME ALBUM, that album being Rhythm Nation. Even her big brother Michael couldn't pull off that feat with Thriller. And no one can even touch Whitney Houston in the singing department. Remember "Greatest Love of All", or "Where Do Broken Hearts Go"?? Whitney definitely has the best voice and Janet is the BEST of the performing artists. Brother and sister, Michael and Janet...both can perform like no one else can. And Mariah Carey is awesome too. I love me some Mariah Carey. Don't even get me started on my girl Mariah. Janet, Whitney, Mariah, and Anita...I love these girls and I could care less about Beyonce or this new singer that Jay Z is working with.

This is for Ms.Warrick...the image consultant who sounds like she needs to do a little more research about her music. Corrine Bailey Rae does not do Neo-Soul...she does Jazz and Pop. Check the genre. Moreover, why hate on this sister before you even hear what she has to offer. I think that people will remember her name. I think you were worried about people not remembering your name because you felt the need to give your website and your email address so people can look at your website. Sorry, my sister, this sister is not interested. I have given you more credence than you deserve by even addressing your comments. Stop trying to beat a sister down. Let her do her thing. At the end of the day, Beyonce, Rhianna and Ms. Chrisette Michelle could really care less because they're getting PAID. Do you really think that they give a rat's ass how anyone feels about them. In public, they have to thank their adoring fans but all they are doing is thanking you straight to the bank...collecting their royalties and their checks. Here you sit trying to defend one over the other. Trust me when I tell you, none of these sisters is really thinking of you. As an image consultant, you should know that it's your job to build up someone, not tear them down.

So all this hype over something that is probably not anything. I mean it is true that all of these chicks are beginning to look alike...Note Rihanna's hair cut in "Umbrella" strangely resembles Beyonce's in "Me, Myself, and I" but this new girl (Chrisette) seems to have her own sense of style. Regardless of who is backing her she needs not let him (Jay-Z) make her into another Beyonce as he has done with Rihanna. This is why there is so much confusion and controversy going on. He wants B and is so fascinanted by her that he is making mini B's. SO maybe this new girl won't let anyone influence her in the way of believeing that if she ain't a copy cat remake then she won't be anything.

Roni go and see dream girls, you have to see the others perform. You just may get a kick out of seeing Beyonce playing second fiddle. It was said she wanted to do the lead part and was willing to put on weight, but there was no way in hell her voice could even begin to measure up.

I admire the fact that jay Z is a very progressive man and has done a lot for himself. But the guy has no CLASS. I was so dissapointed that he sat with his back turned to "B" at the Golden Globe Awards. Beyonce, wake up girl. It's not all about the way a man work up a sweat....you are too beautiful to be ignored...GET RID OF HIM.

To the person who said B will fade away no she won't the girl is a talented young black woman and hell no she don't need Jay-Z to make a album sale she is what you call a go getter if you ask me he needs her to make his ass look good cause that is what she did the girl knew what she was doing when she made "upgrade you" cause his ass is not good looking I don't see why the women are fighting over him and B if your reading this girl you are to pretty for his ass let them have your left overs there is a really nice looking man out there and you don't have to search cause God will send him to you.And you can't class Rihanna with B cause she can't even touch her hell her songs only be on the radio for 1 month B stuff still is and still the jam in the clubs. So Rihanna who she better get like B instead of in competition cause she won't win. Peace
