Poor Kevin Liles.
After the high-ranking Warner Music executive defended hip-hop's honor during Oprah Winfrey's racially charged, nationally televised Town Hall Meeting a few months ago, all hell broke loose during an event he hosted to kick off the 2007 BET Awards.
Today, the 'New York Daily News' gossip guru Ben Widdicombe offered a spywitness account of fur-flying at Sunday afternoon's "Make It Happen Power Brunch."
I do know for a fact that in some urban centers across country the term "make it happen" actually can mean "whooping ass." But I am almost certain that when Mister Liles, who penned a self-esteem book of the same title, used the term for his star-studded event at Hollywood's Sunset Towers Hotel -- he didn't mean the latter.
The formerly obese music mogul should've been conscientious of his guest relations policy.
Although it may have been awkward not to invite T.I., the most prominent rapper on Liles' Atlantic Records roster, it may have been a good idea -- for better judgement.
A full-scale melee broke out when the hot-headed Atlanta-bred lyricist allegedly jumped on respected talent manager Chaka Zulu -- who works closely with T.I.'s rap rival Ludacris.
"First it was two guys, then it was six guys, then it was 10 guys," the Widdicombe source noted, describing how the fight escalated. "Plates were being smashed, the hotel lost a palm tree. The place got trashed ...T.I. was like a dog in a meathouse. Chaka's shirt got all torn up. As people spilled outside, [onlookers] were asking, 'Who got shot?'"
Although it's a bit silly, there is an alleged backstory between the two hot hip-hop celebrities: apparently there's been some type of beef about which one is actually 'The King of the South.'
Ludcacris (born Chris Bridges) is a former radio personality turned crossover rapper who has sold millions of records and garnered heavyweight acting jobs (most notably 2005s' Academy Award winning drama 'Crash'). He's sold 10 million records within the past decade; his latest opus 'Release Therapy' has sold more than 1.6 million copies.
T.I., on the other hand, languished on Arista Records before re-tooling his image and moving to Atlantic Records. His rugged rap prowess has been endeared by hood denizens across the country and has propelled him to mainstream status.
On the Hollywood front, the man (legally known as Clifford Harris) had a break-out role in last year's 'A.T.L.' and will star in 'American Gangster' with Oscar winners Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe and Cuba Gooding, Jr. Musically, he's a lyrical monster who has collaborated with the best of them, including Jay-Z, Wyclef Jean, Justin Timberlake and Destiny's Child.
Before the fame, the thin thug rap icon reportedly was closely associated with cronies who carried hammers to protect themselves -- in the lower trenches of Atlanta.
In an April 2006 interview with 'Vibe' magazine, he was quoted as saying, "I used to not give a f#$%, but I am scared of the police, 'cause they'll have you f#$%ed up. You got a gun, I got my gun. But if you got a badge, all right, you win. It's your show. You make the rules."
A spokesperson for Zulu, who is also Co-Founder/CEO of Ludacris's DTP (Disturbing Tha Peace) Records did confirm that he was "involved in a physical altercation."
In the mid-afternoon, Zulu was approached by rapper T.I. at the Kevin Liles hosted event and after an unprovoked attack from the rapper, was forced to defend himself, a statement obtained by The BV Newswire said. Both Zulu and T.I. escaped major injury.
"It's a shame that things like this continue to happen especially with the backdrop of an event that was about benevolence and charitable works," Zulu offered. "I'm thankful that all issues have been resolved."
Meanwhile, Cara Donatto, Atlantic Records Vice President of Media Relations (who is Liles' primary point person) said "we have no comment."
Alrightee then.
I wonder whether Oprah, and anti-hip-hop panelists Stanley Crouch and Jason Whitlock are scratching their heads about this embarrassing brawl, which reportedly had L.A.P.D. circling the area in choppers and landed Omarosa Manigault-Stalworth's mother in the hospital.
I sure am.

Why do these rappers have to act like this? Don`t get me wrong not all of them but enough to confirm in the minds of white folks the stereotypes that have plagued us for so many years. And don`t give me that well it`s growing up in the ghetto crap. What about all the black jazz musicians? You dont see Winton and Bradford Marsallis having beef with Herbie Hancock, you dont see blues musicions fighting each other or gospel musicians shooting each other, and believe it or not there are many classically trained musicians of color. All these different genres all coming from the same ghetto that the rappers come from. First of all we need to stop calling each other nigger, nigga etc, in all it`s variations, I don`t care how much it has been desensitized, sanitized, or flipped around to a term of endearment. The history of the word is to steeped in hatred, degradation, and violence toward our people. You don`t see any other race of people calling themselves by a racial slur. Have you ever heard a mexican call another one a taco bender or a wetback? Have you ever heard a chinese call another one slant eye or gook? Here is where the rubber meets the road, if you are a nigger no matter how you pronounce it, it conotates worthlessness, lowlife, shadey, therefor i can mutilate and even kill you without any remorse. And if you are one then I am one to so I can ingest, inhale, and inject poison into my body commiting suicide slowly as I dont have the intestinal fortitude to just jump off of somthing or step in front of somthing or pull the trigger myself, no i`ll just make somone else do it because of my ultra agressive disrespectfull behaviour. Also if I am a nigger than your mother , your sister , your daughter or any female member of yours and my family is one to . Therefor they can be called bitch , ho etc. They can be assaulted manhandled and verbally treated with such contempt and misogny its just sickening. Hiphop used to be fun and also had social messages, People like KRS 1, grandmasterflash, kurtis Blow, Common and public enemy who spoke the words that we didn`t have the platform to. These guys and all that were and is like them are like an epiphany, they spoke for the disenfranchised masses. James Brown, Gil Scott Heron, some of you young people look up these names, get uplifted and enlightened. God bless you and have a great life.

its a shame that we as a people cant get together w/o there being some sort of altercation. both ti and ludacris are extremly successful artist, they dont need to have any sort of beef to gain more success. personally i like both of them i even think im gon buy ti's new cd ti vs. tip. in XXL magazine ti says how he has two perosnalities which are ti and tip. he says ti is the business personality and tip is the hot headed, speak wats on his mind personality. i think that ludacris and ti need to squash their beef like nas and jay z did, cus wen they cam together they created some wonderful music.

Your comments: Fuck what you people call the business. When the business is destroyen our race and getting our children brutally murked, "FUCK THA BUSINESS" because black on black death, and violence in 2007 is not the "BUSINESS". It sad because the only time we stick together is at a Funeral or in Jail. So Fuck The Business. The business can't bring back the children trying to be thugs like Pac, Biggy, and T.I.. What will they do when their sons are killed behind playing the role off their music, or will they allow it????I'm a 30yr old black man and I can honestly say there
is no pride
amungs our people. Things have change for the worse sence my senior
year of 94/95 if you like it or not. We don't have any more class, humbleness, wisdom, nor
honor for other black people who are using their hard earned money to
provide real events for us, the black male. This is why our parties
get turned out in thirty minutes, no race respects us, and our own
people refuse to invest in us. We need to pull back on the rings when
it comes down to the artist that we put out because it's starting a
regresion in our people. Gang banging is worse then it was in 1985,
kids are smoking crack again, Our woman are known as HOES PERIOD, there are no black busineses, blacks
steriotype blacks worse then whites to hire other races, and there is
no pride in being black anymore. T.I. says he's afraid of the police
but you'll get into beaf with millionaires that with send people
with AK's and 50 calibers after your black ass. Wake up young black
men. Yea you say we don't have any black leaders to save us; although
we don't need a black leader to know right from wrong. This is what your
mama tought you, your aunt, miss so in so down the block, or a
teacher even. We know it's wrong to fuck up black events. Black
events have always been a nutral respected zone sence forever. Stop acting like
you don't remember, and have mental problems. Kill that slave kill a
N*@ga mantality bullshit. You got the Skin heads killing us, Latino's killing
us, Police killing us, FBI killing us, CIA killing us, Laboratories
killing us, Drugs killing us, Envriroment killing us, why do we have to kill us when we're
all we got, !!!FUCK!!! Why do we have to be the SAD race of people, !!!WHY!!!
Why are these people givin the money when there are so many educated,
or want to be educated/educators who need the money. Not all black men
are thugs, and for you thugs your killing off the very people that
could be the A/R that would give you the better deal, or the
attorney that could have got your black ass off that gun case, but
instead you took that other muthafucka who doesn't give a rats ass
about you, or your people. You who fuck up black events "ARE THE REAL
BITCHES", again, you who fuck up black events "ARE THE REAL BITCHES",
because all you care about is your stupid ass self. Straight the fuck
up. That's why our hip hop stations here on the West are run by Latinos,
and Whites. They tell us the people who created Hip Hop who's hot and
who's not, and we accept this. The artist who have made it. You can't
tell me that this is not pure retardation. You got more Asian,
Latino, and white D.J's, breakers, and producers then anything else.
But we want to rap about gang bangin, drugs, bitches, money while your
people are !!!BROKE!!! BROKE n*@ga BROKE!!!, instead of talking about how our are families young and old
are green lighted to be killed by the latino's who call our Hip Hop,
Latin Hip Hop, and our Regae, Regae tone, or talking about how the
whites are telling the world that the majority of our race is
infected with a deadly disease so our own women don't even want to
fuck us.(GENOCIDE) Talk about that, talk about the real extermination of the
black male that is going on today. Talk about the three and a half
states worth of black men locked up and will be forgottin, or even if
you want to get deeper than that, talk about how they hold on to the dead inmates with no families
corpses to keep collecting money off of their souls. I feeeeeeeeeel for my
people because this new generation are ingnorant and scared to stand
for something and ready to die for not a fuckin thing. Kings of the South, but all your subjects are broke and you both are dodgen the pigs. The kings of the South while the KKK are still burning crosses, and killing blacks in your kingdoms. Nigga Please. Kings of the South because the media wants another 2 Pac and Biggy and both of you are too stupid to see it. Your both kings of that bullshit they call (Genocide). T.I. I know you have a good heart because you tried to help your people, but your actions out in front of the media can do alot of damage to what your heart really stands for. Your not a king until you can create an army like Malcom, Martin, Marcus, and Nat Turner that respect you to the point that thousands will be willing to lay down their lives for you and what you stand for. Peace, Hayes

A fight can break out anywhere over anything. This isn't about "black folks not behaving themselves". This is about HUMAN behavior. There was a fight at a symphony a while ago involving two white men. We cannot control the actions of others. Repercussions and consequences are the tools used to teach people "right" from "wrong". Violence exists in every society. So don't worry about what other people think of Black folks- people are the same all over the globe.

Personally, i am appauled at the behavior that took place. T.I., a very talented, attractive man is not the king of the south, if he, by all accounts gave himself that name. Ludacris has been around longer, has acted in quite a few well-respected films, and has a rap career that measures beyond album sales. T.I., to be king it's not about attacking the "enemy", it's about proving through hard-work and self-respect whose boss. Show us and yourself why you deserve the title of king of the south without any doubt to speak of.

BY THE WAY HE WAS THE ONLY RAP ARTIST TO GO PLATINUM IN 2006 WHERES RAP GOING. T.I. BROTHER KEEP MAKING THAT FIRE MUSIC PIMP TRULY THE KING OF HIP HOP RIGHT NOW!

TI need to grow up. That's the problem with rappers they think they are invincible. They are stupid and don't have any class about themselves. I refuse to buy or listen to any rap music. There is know message in their music, just a lot of cursing and violence. And the thing about showing their underwear has played out. TI was an embarrasment on the 2007 BET Awards Show. Although he is from ATL he does not represent the people or ATL or the me as a Black Person. I detest everything about him. STUPID A$$
