Rev. Al Sharpton and TMZ.com are having a war of words ... over, of all things, Beyonce.
Yesterday, the celebrated civil rights activist took umbrage of the wildly popular media website's usage of the term "roboho" in reference to the bootylicious beauty's much-buzzed about '2007 BET Awards.'
"Calling any woman a "ho" is demeaning and abusive and it should not be tolerated on any level," Sharpton fired off, bringing new light to his decency initiative -- which was sparked by Don Imus's controversial 'Nappy Head Hos' remark about the Rutgers University women's basketball team.
"It is intolerable to think that TMZ.com would find humor in calling Beyonce-someone who symbolizes the strength, dignity and uplifting of Black women---a "Roboho," and they should be denounced by the entire community for glorifying the continued oppression of women with this derogatory term," he continued, adding "Racism in America is perpetuated by ignorance and hate and using one's airwaves or media entity to promote it is a blatant setback to civil rights and the advancement of equality."
TMZ, which is co-owned by AOL, LLC Inc -- AOL Black Voices' parent company, issued its own missive to Sharpton and his allegations that the site is racially prejudiced, later yesterday afternoon.
"First and foremost, please note that we called Beyonce's performance outfit "roboho" not Ms. Knowles herself," TMZ posted on its site. "There is a difference. One need not know a celebrity personally to have an opinion on their wardrobe. Joan Rivers created an entire industry based on this fact."
Touche.
Considering themselves "an equal opportunity offender when it comes to the snarky fashion policing of Hollywood," TMZ posed the question: "Should the word "ho" be banned? Or only in reference to Black women?"
Ironically, all of this goes down as the NAACP had a Detroit funeral service for "The N Word."
You gotta love it, I tell ya.
No one in Beyonce's camp responded to this query about Rev. Sharpton or TMZ.com.

Here we Go Lets keep it real Beyonce is a very talented women but the only reason she is praised is because she's high yellow and people love high yellow blacks I'm dark skinned but one my daughters is very very light skinned and no matter where we are people just oggle and google over her one old guy even gave her 10 dollars (which I refused) just for being adorable but my other daughter is dark skinned with hair down her back and he barely said hello to her. I just hate the way the world justifies beauty I don't want my children growing up feeling second best.If Beyonce cared about her heritage so much why is she so fake? fake nose, hair, breast and personality.I don't agree with the term hoe but she is a very fake person.

Just because someone has a talent doesnt mean I should respect them. And it surely doesnt mean they have the right to do everything and anything either. You guys make some really ignorant statements. So if your girlfriend comes over to your house n a thong and seethrough bra and she knows you got 5 kids there and a husband... just because your girlfriend can sing I guess that makes it ok? See how stupid that sounds. Some of You guys don't think. That's why our people are the way they are. Because of idiot comments like the one who said just because a person has a talent we should respect them? Please.

Ok so you're definition of a role model is as long as you look good and can sing? You lost me there. What has Beyonce done to help our people? She is not a role model. To some she might be, only because they don't know what a role model is. Beyonce isnt paving a way that hasnt already been paved so dont go there if you just want to use the "she can sing and dance" line, I mean cmon. What has she realllly done that can make her a role model? Nothing.
Problem is our people's expectations are SO LOW we will put almost anything on a pedestal and call it "role model". Sometimes I'm ashamed of my own people. She is far from a positive influence to my sisters and our children. Some of you rock back and forth to her music so much, and love the entertainment so much, that you are willing to "demean" yourselves by saying some really ignorant things.
Just for the record... "Class" isnt being half naked in front of the world or doing on stage gogo dances ok. That's entertainment, maybe even skills, but NOT class. Remember her as Diana? Diana even interveined and said something.

Beyonce is a performer just like everyone else on that stage that night. Last time I checked her outfit wasn't as scandelous as something you'd see in an Uncut video, another one of BET's "quality" programs. I've seen worse performers and artists and so have many of you and I think it's very pitiful that people can always have something negative to say about someone who is in the prime of their life who happens to have a beautiful voice. She's one of the few singers of the decade who actually "sings." Let it go people, the outfit, her performance, nor the way she carries herself is deserving of the hating that people are doing.

Beyonce is no more a 'ho' than Mother Teresa. It's a shame that the stupid comment is getting attention. There is nothing wrong with the way Beyonce dresses for her performances. She is an entertainer, and a hell of an entertainer at that!!! People who are not so successful get 15 minutes of fame when they blast her (and other descent celebrities like her). Charge it to their IGNORANCE,
TMZ.com is a noshowHO. So there you have it. See how stupid it is to lower one's standards. My mother put it best - "IF YOU CAN'T BE NICE - BE QUITE!!!
