Rev. Al Sharpton and TMZ.com are having a war of words ... over, of all things, Beyonce.
Yesterday, the celebrated civil rights activist took umbrage of the wildly popular media website's usage of the term "roboho" in reference to the bootylicious beauty's much-buzzed about '2007 BET Awards.'
"Calling any woman a "ho" is demeaning and abusive and it should not be tolerated on any level," Sharpton fired off, bringing new light to his decency initiative -- which was sparked by Don Imus's controversial 'Nappy Head Hos' remark about the Rutgers University women's basketball team.
"It is intolerable to think that TMZ.com would find humor in calling Beyonce-someone who symbolizes the strength, dignity and uplifting of Black women---a "Roboho," and they should be denounced by the entire community for glorifying the continued oppression of women with this derogatory term," he continued, adding "Racism in America is perpetuated by ignorance and hate and using one's airwaves or media entity to promote it is a blatant setback to civil rights and the advancement of equality."
TMZ, which is co-owned by AOL, LLC Inc -- AOL Black Voices' parent company, issued its own missive to Sharpton and his allegations that the site is racially prejudiced, later yesterday afternoon.
"First and foremost, please note that we called Beyonce's performance outfit "roboho" not Ms. Knowles herself," TMZ posted on its site. "There is a difference. One need not know a celebrity personally to have an opinion on their wardrobe. Joan Rivers created an entire industry based on this fact."
Touche.
Considering themselves "an equal opportunity offender when it comes to the snarky fashion policing of Hollywood," TMZ posed the question: "Should the word "ho" be banned? Or only in reference to Black women?"
Ironically, all of this goes down as the NAACP had a Detroit funeral service for "The N Word."
You gotta love it, I tell ya.
No one in Beyonce's camp responded to this query about Rev. Sharpton or TMZ.com.

We don't hear Madonna being called a HO by whoever. She's no better then Beyonce. Wake up and smell the coffee please before it's too late. Because if you don't things will never get any better for Black People. Our quality life is already in big jeporday and some people already have no quality of life. She is an entertainer not a Ho, an entertainer not a HO.

BUT I WON'T EVER CALL HER A HO...EVEN IF SHE WERE STANDING ON PEACHTREE, FLAGGED MY CAR DOWN, AND TOLD ME SHE WOULD DO SOMETHING STRANGE FOR SOME CHANGE. SHE'S GETTIN' HER PAPER...STOP HATIN' AND GET YOURS.

Just because you don't like a particular person doesn't mean that you're jealous of them or that you're hating on them. I don't like Beyonce's music, her voice, her acting,or her style, because that's not my taste. I also can't stand(infact she makes me ill)Brittney Spears, Christina Agu-however you spell her name or Paris Hilton. Trust me I'm not jealous of those HO's either. Beyonce may not be a ho by definition of the word, but she has dressed like one. (i e the Bet Awards)She also shakes her booty like one. If she walked down the street or went to churh or a job interview in that get-up she'd be turning more than a few heads, getting cat calls, and all the other negative attention regular people get for dressing like a HO

For all of you saying that Beyonce is a hoe....shut up! She carries herself very well if you ask me. There nothing wrong with showing some skin here and there, as long as it is tasteful. She always has class and is never raunchy! Just because a woman wears a short skit, doesn't mean she's a whore. It could another woman in the room with a business suit on who has slept with everyone in the room. What ever happened to not judging a book by it's cover. Funny, mother always told me, people who are quick to point the finger usually do so, to take the heat off of them because they know they are doing what they are accusing other of. SMH

foxy brown is black too and when she wa accused of being with a pimp that had is freelance employees assult her she was called a ho, or it was implicated ...the was no comment to rectify her good name. do you think diana ross would have worn that get up ... nope! thats why she avoided being called a ho. little or no clothes, hell i may have called her a ho when crazy in love came out and she had on stilettoes pumps and blue panties...sorry short shorts... but not because she had on an ugly outfit to perform in. wait where was the ho comment when she ho'd herself to sports illastrated (sp)? the point is in america we have the right to free press as sharpton is using...hint hint...and we have the right to free speach...is sharpton saying that we now dont have the right to our own opinion too. in my humble opinion he should dress like a heterosexual man who doesnt get his hair and nails done...but no one to support me on that either i suppose. lmao
