Alfre Woodard will next star in the Hallmark TV movie 'Pictures of Hollis Woods.'Four time Emmy Award winning actress Alfre Woodard will next star in the Hallmark Hall of Fame telefilm 'Pictures of Hollis Woods.'

Based on Patricia Reilly Giff's book of the same name, the movie centers on 12-year-old Hollis Woods (played by Jodelle Ferland) who, after being abandoned as a baby, has bounced around the foster-care system until she meets Josie (played by Sissy Spacek), a quirky retired art teacher who understands her and gives her unconditional love.

Woodard will play the girl's social worker.

James Tupper will play a previous foster parent whose family wanted to adopt Hollis, until tragedy struck.

'Woods' is currently in production and is slated to premiere on the specialty cable channel later this year.

During the 2005-2006 season, the Tulsa, Oklahoma-born thespian starred as the loony Betty Applewhite on ABC's hit series 'Desperate Housewives.' This followed a cavalcade of remarkable roles on film in television, which include 'Down in the Delta,' 'Love & Basketball,' 'Crooklyn' and 'The Tuskegee Airmen.'

Woodard has also been announced to join rootsy rapper and acclaimed actor Mos Def in the upcoming drama 'Bury Me Standing.'
