Rap group UGK has hit the top of the Billboard charts this week with their long awaited new album, 'Underground Kingz.'
The 26-song, two-CD set -- boasting collaborations with T.I., Rick Ross, Swizz Beatz, Scarface, Marley Marl, Jazze Pha, Lil Jon Slim Thug, Charlie Wilson, Raheem DeVaughn, Three 6 Mafia, Willy D, OutKast, Kool G Rap, and Big Daddy Kane -- sold close to 160,000 copies in its first week of release, said a Jive Records spokesperson.
The duo, consisting of group members Pimp C and Bun B, are universally regarded as the true voices of the south.
Over the years, they have been blessing their peers with collabos -- most notably Jay-Z's classic 'Big Pimpin.'
Individually, they've held their own, too; Bun B's 2005 debut solo album 'Trill' peaked at no. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart and was certified gold; and fresh out of jail, Pimp C's 2006 solo opus 'Pimpalation' debuted at No. 3 on the Top 200 and at No.1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts, respectively.
The lead track from 'Underground Kingz' is 'Int'l Players Anthem (I Choose You)' featuring OutKast. It has received strong support from radio stations across the country and the video, which contains cameos by OutKast, Three 6 Mafia, David Banner and Gipp of Goodie Mob, is in rotation on BET, MTV and MTV2.
And the mainstream just loves their brew of gangsta rap.
USA Today enthuses "...with this star-studded 26-song double CD of funk-drenched playalistic street rhymes... [The] Kingz seem poised to finally get their dues."
Entertainment Weekly adds, "...UGK show enough swagger to rightfully claim their throne."
And the Houston Chronicle simply states, "...Pimp C and Bun B's own dazzling dynamic should finally earn the duo its place among rap royalty."
And if the two disc collection isn't enough, 'Underground Kingz' is also available in a limited-edition 26-song, two-CD set, with a bonus DVD.
The DVD contains their latest videos including "Int'l Players Anthem (I Choose You)" featuring OutKast, in-depth interviews with UGK and special guest appearances from OutKast, T.I., David Banner, Rick Ross, Jeezy, Three 6 Mafia and more.
