"I'm just jealous that I wasn't born Latina. I wish I had been because the culture is so beautiful. I'm very grateful Latinos are embracing me."

White women especially resented the presence of the women because they competed with them. The entire system was evil. New Orleans is a perfect example of how color based prejudice keeps people from growing economically. It is no coincidence that the poverty rate was high and wages low before Katrina. If African-Americans would learn to deal honestly with our history, love and support one another we would begin to heal and prosper. Everyone else on the planet is moving forward, except us. I would also like to add that Hispanic is not a race. It is a language group. Hispanics come in many colors and most have some Africa ancestry. They too are behind economically, i.e. Brazil, Guatemala, Honduras, etc, because of a class system closely associated with color. For more information on the history of the "Quadroon" balls study the life of Mother Henriette Delille. This is a woman that rejected the lifestyle of the mistress and founded an order dedicated to educating and ministering to slaves. It still exists It is the first African-American order of nuns.

Beyonce needs to study history and realize that the white Beyonces' of Louisiana will never invite her or her family to a reunion. They are not considered Creole. Creole is a white person descended from the original French or Spanish settlers in Louisiana. The author of Cane River was informed in clipped, sharp, in no uncertain terms by the white people she encountered while researching her book that she was black and not Creole. The women and men that had African and French/Spanish heritage were not embraced by their white relatives. The women were auctioned off, literally and figuratively at the "Quadroon" balls to become the mistresses of wealthy white planters. These men never married these women; keeping them as sexual partners and nothing else. It was an immoral and depraved lifestyle that thankfully ended with slavery. The lighter skinned slaves were manipulated into believing that they were superior to their darker skinned counterparts. This mentality continued well into the 20th century with paper bags being used as a measure of who could enter certain organizations, churches, etc(You had to be lighter than a paper bag!)

Beyonce is one of those people who is very beautiful but you never want to hear her speak. She has been in the business for over a decade and still doen not know how to talk or give interviews. She is always over using the word "Amazing". She need to learn that you can appreciate another culture without putting down your own. Now behind closed doors, I understand where she is coming from. Being black is beautiful. Unfortunately it's our hip hop culture that is not beautiful. Although there are a few that have become very wealthly from hip hop, for the most part millions have been affected negatively from the culture. Latinos remind me the black community before intergration. When blacks depended on each other & it took a village to raise our children.

C'mon Beyonce, it's not like you recorded a whole spanish album; let's not get too excited about the reception over a few songs remixed and mastered into another language. It's not that serious sweety.

What's the big deal. Hispanics are the next largest minority after blacks, shoot there are probably more of them now anyway. But that really isn't the point. It seems to me that people love to nitpick those celebrities who aren't really doing anything wrong. So what she said she wishes she was latina they got flavor just like we do . It's not like she wants to be a white woman. We needt o stop being so judgemental and just be proud that we have a few Black female celebrities who know how to act and represent. Stop all that hating and get a life. What are you doing to uplift the race?

Okay A woman, you just made the dumbest comment of all. For the most part I agree with most the comments up here because they are similiar to mine, but yours was just ignorant. Dang, what is the African American community going to do, with ignorance like you lerking around? Especially if you breed and make more ignorance... *sigh*

I am quite sure that she did not mean this in a negative way but as usual the haters are going to make this bigger than it really is. She is talented, rich and beautiful. I am quite sure that she is proud to be black. Most of the comments are comming from jealous,hating,low-rent,no-class ghetto idots.

Bottom line is that this chick is horrible at public speaking, and she's a borderline ditz.
