D.L. Hughley's fourth solo stand-up HBO special premieres this weekend and he's doing it all his own way -- with no apologies.
That's why it's called 'D.L. Hughley: Unapologetic.'
Taped before a live audience at the historic Lincoln Theater in Washington, D.C., the hour-long special features the South Central Los Angeles native's take on: the immigration debate; Cuban refugees; airplane restrictions; the "n" word; Don Imus and freedom of speech; the price of gasoline and cocaine; the NRA; and much more.
It also captures his interactions with hapless audience members in the first row.
"People who know me, know what I'm about," Hughley, 44, said in a recent interview. "People who know me, know who I am. And people that are fans, will be fans. People that aren't, aren't."
In the late 1990s, the former gang member was part of the hit "Original Kings of Comedy Tour," which played to packed houses in more than 50 cities across the country and was later the subject of a feature film directed by Spike Lee.
Hughley made his HBO debut on 'Russell Simmons' Def Comedy Jam,' and went on to star in three solo specials on the network, including a 1992 edition of 'One-Night Stand,' a 1994 'HBO Comedy Half-Hour' and 1999's 'D.L. Hughley: Going Home.'
His other TV credits include the popular ABC sitcom 'The Hughleys,' which ran four seasons, the special 'Shocked and Appalled' and the talk show 'Weekends at the D.L.'
He recently starred in the drama series 'Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.'
'Unapologetic' will also air Sept. 28 (1:30 a.m.), Oct. 1 (11:00 p.m.), Oct. 4 (10:15 p.m.), Oct. 9 (3:15 a.m.), Oct. 15 (11:30 p.m.) and Oct. 21 (midnight).

D.L. Hughley has always been outspoken using comedy and humor to speak on real issues. Even when he had his own show from time to time he would educate viewers on things that we as black people and all people should be concerned about. Forward ever, backward never. Free not just the Jena 6, but also free the captives all over the world, all colors of the rainbow. Bob Marley... Rastaman live up!!!! One love! Keep the fiyah burnin D.L. I love DL, but his logic for using the 'N" word is just straight up dumb. He said when he goes to the Doc, the doc doesn't say " Dl your cholestrol is up but, never mind that "have you been using the N word lately?" What doe one have to do with the other? Why can't cut the N word & the fast food? What is he saying we can't walk & chew gum at the same time?
N word's got to go, on his way he should grab "bitches & whores" Stop the madness already! If I see another black man on TV trying to justify the uses of these words. I will just go bunkers!
If our men can't give us respect, we have no right asking it from the white men, & you know they are not interesting in giving it to us anyways.
STOP THE MADNESS!
I love him though.

AS FOR DL. I HAVE ALWAYS ADMIRED HIM AND I LOVE IT WHEN I SEE ALL MY SISTERS AND BROTHERS SPEAK UP WHATS IN THEIR HEART. WHY SHOULD WE BE AFRAID OF MEN THAT WILL DIE. WHEN WE DON'T SPEAK UP FOR OURSELVES SOME PEOLE WILL TELL US ANYTHING AND EXPECT FOR US TO BELIEVE IT. DL KEEP BEING YOURSELF .

THIS WAS REPORTED IN TODAY'S NEW YORK POST:
AS Don Imus gets ready to go back to work, the famed radio host has the support of D.L. Hughley, who recently told AVClub.com, "I watched Don Imus . . . support Harold Ford and Barack Obama. I also watched him take politicians to task for their treatment of Katrina victims. I have a bit of context. And it would be hypocritical for me to deny somebody else the right to express themselves the way they see fit." Hughley - whose "Unapologetic" comedy special debuts tonight on HBO - got into similar trouble on Jay Leno's show when he described the Rutgers basketball team as "some of the ugliest women I've ever seen in my whole life."
WHAT DO GUYS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS?
