Isaiah Washington may have gotten fired from 'Grey's Anatomy' -- after the homophobic slur controversy last spring -- but the woman who played his mother is returning for the new season.
The BV Newswire has learned that Diahann Carroll will reprise her role as Jane Burke on the season premiere of the ABC hit drama, airing Oct. 4 (9:00 p.m. ET).
Titled 'Love/Addiction,' Mama Burke returns to collect her son Dr. Preston Burke's belongings just as Cristina (played by Sandra Oh) trades her wedding presents in exchange for surgeries.
To refresh viewer's memories, Christina gagged when Preston left her at the alter during last season's big wedding finale.
And in her natural style, Carroll will show up on the Shonda Rhimes-created series to show out.
Can't wait.
An added bonus: 'Roots' star Ben Vereen will Join the 'Julia' and 'Dynasty' legend as a guest on the show.

I am very thankful for Ms. S. Rimes bringing Diana Carroll back into Grey's Anatomy. Ms. Carroll is an excellent actress with passion & fire. I have been priviledged to observe & hear her in person & she's got style. I wish she could be written in more than just one show. And please bring back her son Dr. Preston he could be brought back in after going thru counseling for being bia against gays.
Come on Ms. S. Rimes present a strong support for bringing him back to network, sponsors & gay associations. I will back you 120%.

Tell them to bring back Burke....they need Washington. So what he made an mistake and accepted responsibility and apologized for it. If one of the other actors had done it they would not have gotten fired. SHAME on Shonda for letting Washington go....
It is your show...you should call the shots. Get rid of some of those ditzy girls and keep Burke.

Love, love, love, "Grey's Anatomy". Love Christina and Mama Burke. Loved the new spin-off, Private Practice, last night. It, too, will be a hit. Grey needs more backbone; and, please let Callie have George. He doesn't fit the vivacious, but, supposedly smart blond. Why is she hooked up with somebody else's man? I would love to see Dr. Burke come back humbled and contrite in 2008 before the show ends its season, only to find Christina involved in a passionate, secret affair with the Chief of Staff. What a finale.

Unfortunately I won't get to see Diahann Carrolls work because I will no longer watch the show. I don't like how they treated Mr. Washington. They had jump through all their hoops and after he completed all their demands they fired him. I'm also disappointed in Shonda Rhimes, that she allowed this to go down.
