Lynn Whitfield has joined the cast of the star-studded remake of the classic drama 'The Women,' which The BV Newswire previously reported Jada Pinkett-Smith and Eva Mendes being a part of.
The 55-year-old Baton Rouge-reared beauty -- who won an Emmy Award for 1991's 'The Josephine Baker Story' -- now joins a line-up that includes Bette Midler, Cloris Leachman, Carrie Fisher, Joanna Gleason, Ana Gasteyer, Debi Mazar, Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Debra Messing, and Candice Bergen.
"The catalyst of the story is still one of the women discovering her husband is having an affair, and the reaction of her friends," writer-director Diane English told Variety. "Unless I screw it up, there's a built-in audience for this movie."
Whitfield, who also appears in the recently released straight to DVD flick 'Confessions of a Call Girl,' will also star in another remake -- 'Mama I Want to Sing' a gospel-music based project adaptation from the hit-Off Broadway musical of the same name.
Executive produced by power publicist Marvet Britto, the Charles Randolph-Wright-directed film -- due in theaters next February via Codeblack Entertainment -- stars Ciara, Patti LaBelle, Juanita Bynum, Hill Harper, Billy Zane, Ben Vereen, Smokie Norful, Kim Porter and the show's original star Desiree Coleman-Jackson.

They both sound like hits, and I love Lynn.

Ms. Whitfield is a sterling icon of the class, beauty, and character within the vast pool of talented black women in America. Frankly, I consider her among the top of the heap. Sadly, the Hollywood establishment has a long history of under-featuring many of our more dignified artists who represent us as well as Lynn has. We know that she truly deserves all of the respect and accolades of an "A" lister. I hope Hollywood does.

If you have seen "confessions of a call girl" you will rethink how great she is. I was very disappointed in her and Tamala Jones for being in that filth. Very disappointed in Lynn cause she knows better and I know she has the money where she just dont' have to do anything.

Yes, "The Women" is a classic, from 1939. But why remake it? I'm sick of hollywood remaking stuff. Come up w/some new ideas. It was already done wonderfully once. Why assembly some "names" just to try to make the thing over again. That's so annoying. I encourage folks to check out the original. Now, WE ain't in it; but aside from that, it's a good story. And remember--it's 1939!
Anyway, whatever Ms. Whitfield does, she does well!

Lynn Whitfield is one of the most finest older women I know!! I hope that when I turn 55, I can still look as gorgeous as she does. That is fine pure beauty!!

I did see Confessions of A Call Girl. Total filth, but at least Lynn had a small part in it, unlike Tamala who has the unfortunate distinction of being the lead in that crap!! And wasn't there also another remake of The Women starring June Allyson?

She looks absolutely great for her age. She's a dynamic actress and I am glad she is doing more challenging roles here. It's hard out there for a sista in Hollywood. She is talented indeed.

Lynn is such a down to earth person. I know her mother
Jean and the entire family are BUILDERS in our community.
Lynn is one to be held up for our daughters to see.

true love Bishop James & Betty R Winfree
The unconditional feeling that you feel for another person. You don't have reasons for loving, you just do. Even if the feeling isn't mutual. The feeling that inspires, that revives, sometimes even hurts. Age, Looks, Social Status, What others think doesn't matter. The sometimes ecstatic, sometimes excruciating blessing from heaven.
What Jesus Christ did for humanity.
When a person thinks about growing old together and not about getting in someone else's bed.
Our Father said to Paul in His blessed word: Paul My grace is sufficient for you, My power and love is made perfect in weakness. Are we limiting God's loving love and grace in our lives?, Are we trying to hide our weakness from one another and Him?, Our most effective ministry will come out of our pain's and hurts.
Always think about Jesus Christ, fill your mind with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable in God. I made a covenant with my God not to look with lust upon a woman and I am asking Christ Holy Spirit to help me day by day.
The truth is, whatever we can't talk about is already out of control in our lives. A simple life in Christ in the respect and fear of God is much better than a rich life with tons of heartaches. Those that have Christ, have life and those that don't have Him, have not life.
