Lynn Whitfield has joined the cast of the star-studded remake of the classic drama 'The Women,' which The BV Newswire previously reported Jada Pinkett-Smith and Eva Mendes being a part of.
The 55-year-old Baton Rouge-reared beauty -- who won an Emmy Award for 1991's 'The Josephine Baker Story' -- now joins a line-up that includes Bette Midler, Cloris Leachman, Carrie Fisher, Joanna Gleason, Ana Gasteyer, Debi Mazar, Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Debra Messing, and Candice Bergen.
"The catalyst of the story is still one of the women discovering her husband is having an affair, and the reaction of her friends," writer-director Diane English told Variety. "Unless I screw it up, there's a built-in audience for this movie."
Whitfield, who also appears in the recently released straight to DVD flick 'Confessions of a Call Girl,' will also star in another remake -- 'Mama I Want to Sing' a gospel-music based project adaptation from the hit-Off Broadway musical of the same name.
Executive produced by power publicist Marvet Britto, the Charles Randolph-Wright-directed film -- due in theaters next February via Codeblack Entertainment -- stars Ciara, Patti LaBelle, Juanita Bynum, Hill Harper, Billy Zane, Ben Vereen, Smokie Norful, Kim Porter and the show's original star Desiree Coleman-Jackson.

BISHOP WINFREE: There is a time and Place for prayer and lord knows in these times a lot of prayers are needed. If people could follow simple rules the world would be a better place. Since you seem to suffer from this problem I doubt I would visit your church, much less your web site. Every blog BV has printed over the past few weeks you have over looked a simple rule...."PLEASE KEEP YOUR COMMENTS RELEVANT TO THIS BLOG." You remind me of one of those people always in someones face preaching, yet always seen coming out of night clubs. Would it kill you to comment on the blog and just let the link to your web site be enough? I mean no disrespect, but please show some respect for the rules of this blog and the others who comment on it.

I've always loved Lynn Whitfield's work from the "Women Of Brewster Place," and of course Josephine Baker's Story. She was on "Shark" for awhile, but, I don't see her on it anymore! Great crime show. I didn't like the fact she did the Tyler Perry films, sorry, I don't think ANY man should play women, it's never believable! (Oops, except Jamie Foxx on "In Living Color"). I wish TV and film would show more Black women over 50, she's is beautiful and definitely the epitome of class! Then, too, on the other hand the story about "The Women" is still going on today! Boys will be boys! Good luck to Ms. Whitfield--she's magnificent!

Why on earth would they choose to have Kim Porter in the adaptation of "Mama, I Want to Sing?"

We have some fabulously seasoned women in Black Hollywood, like Lynn and Vanessa Williams, to name a few. If no one's creating NEW stories for black women, then its ok to put our "sister-spin" on this classic!

I have always liked and admired Miss Lynn Whitfield. She's done some excellent work with a variety of roles. Of course, her role in "THE JOSEPHINE BAKER STORY" was one of the best in her illustrious career. Recently, I enjoyed her in Tyler Perry's M'DEA'S FAMILY REUNION" Her very dramatic character portayal complimented the comedy of this movie with the experience that only a seasoned veteran can bring to a role. Lynn Whitfield has a grace & elegance about her. I usually give a "look-see" at anything she's in.
PEACE & BLESSINGS to her and her Family and continued success in her career.
