For those of us who thought celebrated cartoonist Aaron McGruder pulled a "Dave Chappelle" and went A.W.O.L. on his flourishing fame and fortune, the kid stays in the picture.
Adult Swim, Cartoon Network's late-night sister network -- which showcases material more mature in nature -- announced that the second season of McGruder's break-out series 'The Boondocks,' will premiere Oct. 8 at 11:30 p.m.(ET/PT).
According to a rep for the network, 15 new episodes of the Peabody Award-winning cartoon will air through January 2008.
The new season will find main characters Huey, Riley and Granddad encountering an array of characters, both new and familiar.
Some situations that can be expected...
-- Granddad's feud with Thugnificent, a world-renowned rapper who moves into the neighborhood.
-- Family friend Tom DuBois enlisting the counsel of A Pimp Named Slickback, when he fears losing his wife to R&B superstar Usher.
-- The family's day at the movies, where they go to see 'Soul Plane 2.'
-- Granddad's attempt at online dating.
-- The family's experiences in taking in a family after Hurricane Katrina.
Throughout the season, a new eclectic mix of hip-hop artists, actors, comedians and media personalities will voice guest characters on the envelope-pushing show, including Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, Ghostface Killah, Cee-lo, Lil Wayne, Donald Faison, Aisha Tyler, Kym Whitley, Tichina Arnold, Mo'Nique, Marion Ross, Tavis Smiley, Terry Crews, Bill Duke and Cedric the Entertainer.
Also look for Mos Def, Xzibit, Charlie Murphy, Sway Calloway and Katt Williams reprising their guest roles from last season.
Regina King voices brothers Huey and Riley Freeman, the two characters central to the series, while John Witherspoon voices Robert Jebediah Freeman aka "Granddad," the boys' cantankerous grandfather. Cedric Yarbrough, Gary Anthony Williams, Gabby Soleil and Jill Talley round out the show's principal cast.
McGruder, who created the popular syndicated comic strip of the same name, serves as executive producer of 'The Boondocks.'

I love the Boondocks because they stay with a positive outlook on the black forefront. I'm glad that the show is coming back because my husband and I both missed it. The show has the voice to say what we're all thinking. I'm also looking forward to seeing the one about the family's experiences in taking in a family after Hurricane Katrina. My only hope with that episode is that I hope it doesn't take on what white people put in the media about hurricane evacuee families. I mean, I am a hurricane evacuee, and we're nothing like they portray us. Since Katrina, black people have been fish out of water but determined to make it somehow. This looks like a great season worth checking out!
