DMCSee kids, there is life after hip-hop!!!

Darryl McDaniels a.k.a. DMC -- one half of the legendary rap trio Run-DMC -- may have not recorded a hit song in years, yet he's still a winner.

The Queens, NY-bred lyricist took home an Emmy Award last night during the 28th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards. For his critically acclaimed VH1 documentary 'My Adoption Journey,' he won in the category of Outstanding Arts & Culture Programming beating out the CBS News Mike Wallace tribute for '60 Minutes,' the Cinemax movie 'Favela Rising' and PBS' 'Lomax: The Song Hunter.'

"To be nominated was one thing, that was crazy, but to win- that's a whole other level," DMC told The BV Newswire today.

"This confirms what DMC is about to do for the world," he continued. "This is deeper than records, radio and chart numbers, this is the real reason hip-hop was created-to change lives."

The film, which premiered in February 2006, was the first documentary in the VH1 Rock Docs franchise; high-end feature-length documentaries that each reveal an untold story in the history of rock and hip-hop music, combining never-before-seen footage with a unique and unconventional narrative approach.

Since DMC's groundbreaking foray, other Rock Docs subjects included Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, John Lennon, The Who and "blood diamonds."

Six years ago -- when he was 35 -- DMC made a startling discovery: he was adopted. Suddenly everything he thought he knew about himself changed.

This revelation occurred after the death of Run-DMC deejay Jam Master Jay and while DMC was going through a deep depression.

All of the mental motion gave birth to the provocative documentary.

And it doesn't stop at that. His journey continues.

"DMC use to mean "Devastated Mic Controller" now it means "Deliver My Children,"" he continued, adding, "I have to go and fight so all those foster kids, homeless kids and at risk youth are allowed to fulfill their purpose and destiny just like me. They can't comprehend how great they are already. And for my fellow adoptees I am going to remove the guilt and the shame from the triad, birthmom, adoptee, and adopted parents, and thus will remove the pain."
