Though he's nobody's Bill Cosby, Damon Wayans -- as the patriarch on ABC's 'My Wife & Kids' brought a new millennium touch to black fatherhood during the show's five-season run.
Now the comedic actor is ready to reprise the idea, in a new and different series for ABC.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the former 'In Living Color' star will play the lead actor in another family sitcom -- said to be a bit edgier than 'Wife.' Wayans will play a recent widower who has to take in the 19-year-old stepson he never knew.
The yet-to-be-titled project is the network's second family comedy in development starring a black comedian; Cedric the Entertainer begins production on his show next week.
Wayans' project attracted interest from several networks before landing at ABC with a script commitment. Like "Wife," it will be written and executive produced by Wayans and Don Reo.
Both had been looking to collaborate on a new project since "Wife" was ended April 2005.

I hope this one is better than my wife and kids. The show was funny but I so disliked the way they portrayed the the son. The boy was an idiot! I think younger black males need to see smater kids their age on tv not acting silly and stupid for America. You rarely see that on a white sitcom!

I thought Wayans' "mean" father was terrible. Didn't he know how fathers are SUPPOSED to act toward their children? It was weird hearing his hostile words and seeing his hostile attitude. Especially since you could tell he THOUGHT he was portraying a "good" father.

See, you have Brothers like Damon Way showing people that Black families do live well, and olive off THEIR own hard work. Even though it was totally fictional, that was something to be proud of. Black man running his own business.

Damon seems to have found his niche in doing sitcoms...and the other brothers like Marlon and Shawn are doing well with the big screen. They are a very talented family and God bless them for all the laughter they have brought.

Why was 'My Wife & Kids' ever taken off the air? I guess ABC thinks that 'Cavemen' will be the huge ratings jackpot that they are looking for.
