Though he's nobody's Bill Cosby, Damon Wayans -- as the patriarch on ABC's 'My Wife & Kids' brought a new millennium touch to black fatherhood during the show's five-season run.

Now the comedic actor is ready to reprise the idea, in a new and different series for ABC.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the former 'In Living Color' star will play the lead actor in another family sitcom -- said to be a bit edgier than 'Wife.' Wayans will play a recent widower who has to take in the 19-year-old stepson he never knew.

The yet-to-be-titled project is the network's second family comedy in development starring a black comedian; Cedric the Entertainer begins production on his show next week.

Wayans' project attracted interest from several networks before landing at ABC with a script commitment. Like "Wife," it will be written and executive produced by Wayans and Don Reo.

Both had been looking to collaborate on a new project since "Wife" was ended April 2005.
