It's been a very good season for Mekhi Phifer.
The 'ER' star and his fiancée Oni Souratha welcomed their first child together to the world.
According to People, a boy named Mekhi Thira Phifer was born in Los Angeles on Tuesday morning, weighing in at 5lbs, 4 oz.
"We are really happy and excited," the happy couple said. "He is beautiful."
Phifer, who executive produces and stars in Will Packer's upcoming holiday family film 'This Christmas,' already has an 8-year-old son, Omikaye, from a previous marriage to beautiful actress Malinda Williams.
Phifer and Souratha reportedly showed off their son's green-themed nursery to some 200 friends – including Don Cheadle and others – at their baby shower earlier this month.
"This is just the start of the tribe," the 32-year-old star of films such as 'Honey,' 'Paid in Full' and 'Soul Food,' told People at the shower. "I want to have four or five kids."
Born and raised in Harlem, Phifer's big break came after auditioning for the Spike Lee film 'Clockers,' which he ultimately won the coveted lead role for. He was originally signed to Warner Bros. records as part of a now defunct rap group.
Over the years, the brown-skinned hunk has expanded his acting career with notable roles in TV shows, such as HBO's 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,' and in mainstream movies including '8 Mile' and 'I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.'
Up and coming, Phifer is starring in and producing 'Nora's Hair Salon II,' starring Stacey Dash and Bobby Brown.

What if, maybe, she didn't want to rush plans for a wedding after she found out she was pregnant, and didn't want her wedding dress to be a tent? Is THAT a possibility? Congrats to both of them. I hope they are very happy. And several folks here need to check their grammar. Just because you spell it right doesn't mean it's the right use of the word (particularly, "your" vs. "you're").

Ok, why does anyone need to get married beofre having a child? It happens every day in this world and the children dont die becuase of it. To get married because a woman is pregnant is dumb ,look at how many unhappy marriages there are. Let people live their lives the way THEY want them to know how U want them too! name calling and sayin that because he got into some money he went to a different race is unbelievable ingorant, Could it be that h ejust happened to find her attractive and saw that she was a good person??? hmm think about it!

What a blessing to have a child...just too bad another black man had to seek outside of his race to validate himself as a man...that's a common occurrence the more money and status a black man has it's a shame he has to seek out a non black woman to validate his status as a black man in a white man's world.

As an educated black woman, I feel it is more than pertinent to point out why so many black women take an "angry" stance to black men who choose to be with non-black women. When 60% of us are slated to grow old alone, there is a fear, panic and anger that ensues when we see eligible black men choosing to settle down with non-black women. I have sisters (one of which is married to a white man…and I love it!). I have a mother. I want them to grow old with someone. For the Irish/German/Slovakian/whatever women and black men who are with them - FINE. But DO NOT dare attempt to understand what it is like to be a black woman in a society where we are perceived to be the least attractive and are completely misunderstood by a media that constantly portrays us as stereotypical attitude-having, golddigging individuals. Black men “deserting” us only adds insult to injury because it’s almost like you are reaffirming that we are not good enough for you. Look at all the brainwashing of black culture (videos, commercials, magazines) that perpetuates the idea that no black child is beautiful unless that child is created with a woman of a different race. We do it to ourselves (going off tangent), looking as far back as the brown paper bag test and continually to this day exhibiting color struck behavior with the “good hair” and “too black” comments.
Not all black women have an issue with the "Jungles" as I refer to it. But I do. Growing up where brothas wouldn't even look at you unless you were high, bright, and nearly...We want lifetime mates. But you know what sistas? Join them if you cannot beat them. What’s good for the goose. Brothas didn’t want me, so I dated every other race of man under the sun. What did I learn? Priceless cultural experiences. However, there are black women who only want to be with black men. I have no answer for these women (my older sister is in this bunch). All I can say is that you are doing yourselves a great injustice and depriving yourselves of lifelong happiness. Interestingly enough, I applaud black women who are with men of other races (I know…a bit hypocritical…but I don’t care)! My rationale behind this is that there are more eligible black women than black men (with so many being incarcerated and not obtaining the education that sistas are obtaining at a much higher rate). Our pool is smaller. This is fact. If there were more men of other races attempting to be with black women, I honestly would not care that black men want to go elsewhere. But as you notice on this forum, no black women with a white man spoke out….only white women with black men…and black men with white women. Black men overwhelmingly date and marry outside their race when compared to black women. My results in this love quest: I ended up with a beautiful man who is the product of an Eastern European father and black mother….and please people…refrain from lambasting me as this is my opinion and I am more than entitled.
