Juanita Bynum has an uncanny way of putting things into perspective. And because of that, the revered televangelist has built an ever-expanding loyal following through her various religious endeavors.
When the Chicago native and former hair dresser, flight attendant, welfare recipient, drug offender and gold selling recording artist was allegedly attacked by her estranged husband Bishop Thomas Weeks, III on Aug. 21 during a near fatal physical altercation in an Atlanta hotel's parking lot, Bynum's visibility increased by the ten-fold.
Mainstream media outlets helped galvanize an insatiable public interests in the woman who is officially known as "Prophetess Juanita Bynum."
She, in turn, became the self-proclaimed "new face of domestic abuse" as the legal travails of her and her husband entered the public zeitgeist. Her savvy PR campaign – with stops on 'The Tom Joyner Morning Show,' 'Good Morning America,' 'Star Jones Show' and a series of press conferences – increased her mainstream celebrity.
Now comes an "exclusive" two-part interview with Essence magazine, where Bynum breaks her silence.
Excerpts are below:
On the Attack:
"And then he just grabbed me, and he grabbed me around my throat and threw me to the ground. I said, "Oh, my God, my head!" because the whole sky was spinning. And when I turned around, that's when I got the first kick. I screamed out, "Please don't kill me!..."
On Why She Stayed in the Marriage:
"I don't want anybody to think I was stupid for staying; I stayed because of who I was-I had to be careful. My thoughts were, I can't get a divorce. What would people say? How would they view me? I just felt like I needed to pray more. And I did, and it did get better. We went three years without him getting physical, but then the verbal rage would still be there."
On Her New Mission:
"When people can see where you came from and see what you are today and know looking at where you came from and know that there is no real legal reason why you should even be left standing and you're still standing, that is when God gets the glory. That's when people say there must be a God somewhere. That's where my stand is right now."
Part one of the interview is slated to run in the December issue, followed by Part two in January.
Later this month,'Juanita Bynum: Unplugged' will be released via Flow Records. The DVD project boasts candid interviews, performances from her latest album 'A Piece of My Passion,' and her trademark dynamic ministering.

Something is very wrong here. In Atl, you can not beat on a woman in a parking lot. They will put that man under the jail. Drugs, another woman or another man went wrong here. The whole truth is not being told. Drug users do not tell the truth. When you are in the Word you do not mess up. You are covered by Grace. You are covered by the Holy Spirit. Wrong runs from you. Bynum ain't nothing but a street chic from Chicago that got over on people. She is a crook. Ghetto people fight in parking lots. That's childish. There is more to this story. Think, a person Preaches and they are fighting in a parking lot. In Atlanta at the Airport. Real Ghetto. Real Ghetto. Preacher people. This Ain't Right.

I THANK GOD that HE is healing both the prophetess and Pastor Weeks to the degree that HE gets the glory out of both of their lives and everyone can see Him at work.

PRAISE THE LORD SISTER BYNAM. THE FIRST TIME I EVER HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT YOU I WAS GIVEN A COPY OF YOUR NO MORE SHEETS VIDEO. IT ABSOLUTELY BLEW MY MIND. I SHOWED IT TO ALL OF MY FRIENDS, EVEN MALES. I WAS ABUSED,PHYSICALLY, AND HAVE BEEN ON DRUGS AND BEING HONEST DID WHAT I HAD TO DO TO GET THEM, BUT JUST BY THE GRACE OF GOD THE DEVIL WAS REVEALED TO ME ON MY 38TH BIRTHDAY. I WAS DELIVERED FOR THAT ADDICTION. YOU ARE A WOMAN OF GOD. YOU ARE WHO GOD SENT OT OPEN ALOT OF OUR EYES TO THE WORLD AS IT IS TODAY AND I COMMEND YOU. EVERYDAY BRINGS ABOUT A DIFFERENT STRUGGLE WHETHER IT'S MY SHILDREN OR FIANCE'(WHO'S AN ALCOHOLIC) RUNNING FROM A CALLING ON HIS LIFE, I THANK GOD FOR YOU. KEEP PRESSING ON AND SOME OF WILL KEEP LISTENING. GOD BLESS YOU!!!

I honestly don't know what to think about this whole fiasco. It really seems to have gotten out of hand. There seems to be alot of cyncism and even down-right rage when responding to yet another media moment regarding Ms. Bynum. I know that the only perfect one is Jesus so we're all prone to mistakes. But, it is somewhat discouraging when its our leaders who have accepted the responsibility of leading many followers who look to them for guidance. That's why it's oh so important to keep

Man was made by God to "reason". Animals acts on "instinct". An animal will aviod danger to stay alive. For you 'Jesus Freaks', use your brains to REASON! Get a high school education first. Then, TRY to understand what you read in the Bible.

I am extremely supportive of you and as my pastor says we still need to keep women and men of God in prayer. Sometimes even more than the next person because satan will try to attack them more for spreeding the word of God in such a capacity. Giving glory God despite the circumstance is the best message I have ever recieved. And I love the way that you Miss Bynum continue to be who you are in Christ and stay strong. I love when satan gets embarrased like that. HAHAHA!! We are victorious regardless of what he trys and I just don't get why he keeps trying. I bind him in the Name of JESUS and I plead the Blood of Jesus over your life, ministry, loved ones, and congregation. God bless you and Know that you along with many others are in my prayers. This was more than a physical attack it was spiritual and emotional and satan was trying to ruin your ministry. BUT HE FAILED!! THANK YOU JESUS!!!!!!!!

I'm not sure what to think about this whole fiasco. I noticed alot
of the comments made in this blog are very cynical or even rageful in
regards to another media moment in the life of Ms. Bynum. We have to
keep in mind though that the only perfect one is Jesus Christ - we're
all prone to making mistakes. Of course, it is at times somewhat
discouraging for the religious community at large when it's our
leaders, who have accepted the responsibility of helping to guide so
many souls, no less, closer to the Lord, whose falls are shone right
under that huge lime light. That's why it's important to keep them lifted up in prayer and also to keep your
eyes on the prize, so-to-speak, concentrating on the goodness of the
Jesus and not so much on man.
