"Freedom of speech, what happened to that? What happened to expressing yourself? ... At least I know where he stands. And you know what? When he called them nappy-headed ho's, I went, 'Wow, he's right.'"
-- Comic actor Damon Wayans commenting on the Don Imus/Rutgers University Women's Basketball Team controversy that ensued earlier this year. (The View)

He told the truth! Black people want MORE than equal treatment these days. If the two Men were standing side by side and Damon said "Wow that bitch is nappy", and Imus agreed, then why would it still be Imus in the hot seat for agreeing? That is not what happened, but it seems that Black People want more freedom of speech, as if what they say has more value...no, no it really doesn't. It is the same. The bitches were nappy. period. Both gentlemen are correct.

I just want to know when nappy headed ho's became racial? When did "nappy hair" or being a "ho" become specific to one race? It may have been rude and inappropriate but racial? Come on, can we get past this and become the nation we could be?

I have read alot of these comments and it just makes me sad that so much racism still exists, alot of in peoples minds. So much has been done to promote equality and rights for everyone and yet some of the same people who fight for it hold it back from happening. I look at a person, not a color. There may have been a time when that was not the case, not in my lifetime, but at one time it was. Now it has almost totally reversed itself. Everyone might be treated more equally and accepted as "one nation under God" if the fear of repercussions were eliminated. This is a classic case. A white man made a rude comment to some women who were black. Break it down A man made a rude comment to some women.... Look up nappy, it says no where that it was a white man made up word to describe a black persons hair as stated in one of these blogs. It is A 1.serving dish in Germany, 2.a diaper in Britain, 3. Liquor in Scotland and 4. kinky in US. Kinky being given as two meanings, curly or sexually deviant. No where does it state anything about being specific to black people!! There are plenty of white people and other nationalities who have "kinky", "Nappy", "Curly" stringy, course, wiry hair! The list goes on! The comment was rude and would have been rude if it was directed at any person of any race or color but it was not African American specific, it was specific to a group of women. Do we want equality or do we want it only until we want to use non-equality as a crutch? If there was less fear of being called racist and being accused of things that may not be there maybe we could all embrace each other as a nation instead of segregate each other by holding on to old ways because it is our comfort zone. Start looking in the mirror to change things and stop looking at others to treat you in ways they just might not be treating you. The same goes for anyone of any age, race, color, or sex, make yourself proud of you, don't give others a reason to say negative things about you.

I mean where the hell was the public on that one? I understand what he saying of the freedom of speech bit..but the later should not be anything that anybody...black, white, purple, or gold...should agree with!

Thank God, my black people for Obama. He has raised our standards and inspired us to be more accountable. Damon Wayans, DL Hughley, Jesse Jackson, etc are a dying breed of brothers. For years, these types were given national forums and made their living off of the exploitation provided by white America. They are modern day Judases, paid to betray it's own people. We pray for them but we don't support them. Like Michael Jackson and OJ discovered, that in the end it's all about the legacy. Their legacy will be tainted with betrayal.

He sounds so stupid saying that as a black man even if he is joking, this is something you just don't joke about. Regardless of how you feel about it. He needs to shut up and grow up!

This is exactly what I'm talking about. We cannot make the words go away because that's censorship. We can create our private clubs, and have our private conversations; but someone has the ability to spy on us domestically. Everything you say can be used against you. We are not perfect. We cannot be forced underground. We must communicate to rise above the pain. We cannot cry victim and earn respect. It's like a Bully. If they make you cry, they win. If we cannot share an opinion, no one wins. We all lose. Damon's comment took real courage, but someone had to say it. We know it's not "Free Speech". Damon has good lawyers and he's still entitled to his opinion. I've got love for the Rutger's ladies. Go win the Championship and you'll cash in! It's called marketing! Can you see the wigs?
