"Freedom of speech, what happened to that? What happened to expressing yourself? ... At least I know where he stands. And you know what? When he called them nappy-headed ho's, I went, 'Wow, he's right.'"
-- Comic actor Damon Wayans commenting on the Don Imus/Rutgers University Women's Basketball Team controversy that ensued earlier this year. (The View)

If you watched The View or seen the clip on the net he went on to state that black people would say that to each other because it is in our culture to speak as such to one another. He did not insinuate that he, meaning Imus, was correct in using the words. Its just like to white people calling each other pricks and other harmful names to one another which would not be culturally correct for another race to do so to them. Do we all do it, unfortunately yes but who truly has the right to insult anyone regardless of race, creed, etc...

To E,
Everything is not a joke. How many times do we as black people have to act like fools. Those Rutger basketball players are not hoes and because our hair is not long and flowing does not make it bad. If black women comics called black basketball players "coon criminals" would that be funny? Black male athletes have been known to date and marry anything but a black woman and black men are in prison at a hire rate than any other group. Calling black men hurtfull names would serve no purpose.
Grow the heck up.

I actually saw that View segment when it came on and it was as "unfunny" then as it is in reading about it. His joke just showed what a fool he is.

freedom of speech has nothing to do with this , its rather he was right or wrong for saying what he said. If a sportscaster has to resort to this way to discribe young women he shouldn't be on the air. its not what he said its how he said it.

People speak what they fell and not realize the consequence of the remark that might effect the media.Yes, we are allowed to speak what we chose but pretty much watch where we say them.We need to stop being so preoccupied about what comes out of people mouth.
