Solange Knowles is ready to step out of her big sister's shadows.
For real, this time.
The young R&B ingénue, who released her debut album 'Solo Star' in 2003, is no longer on the same record label as her elder sibling Beyonce Knowles.
The BV Newswire has learned that Solange, as she is known, "is moving to Los Angeles and moving to a new record label."
The young, single mother – who has dabbled in songwriting and acting over the past few years – will reportedly record for the Geffen Records label, already home to music stars Mary J. Blige, Macy Gray, Fergie, Nelly Furtado and Keyshia Cole.
According to Chanel Green, a rep for Solange, the forthcoming project will be "a new joint venture relationship with Music World Music," which is helmed by the singers' father Mathew Knowles.
A Geffen spokesperson had no further information on the deal, when reached for comment.
As an actress, the 21-year-old Houston native, appeared in 'Johnson Family Vacation,' and also appeared on the TV show 'One on One,' as well as in 'The Brothers Garcia,' in a special guest role. She then starred in 'Bring It On: All or Nothing,' which was released on DVD last year.
As a songwriter, Solange has written and co-written songs for Destiny's Child , Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Trin-I-Tee 5:7 , and even her big sister.
She is even credited with penning 'Home for the Holidays' -- which was used for Wal-Mart's national holiday commercial campaign.
On a personal front, Solange reportedly married college football player Daniel Smith in February 2004. Six months later, the couple had their first son, Daniel Julez Smith. Last month, she confirmed in an interview they were now divorced.
She currently appears in an advertising campaign with Beyonce for their family-run fashion line House of Dereon.

I agree with Iceman, it's only because she's Beyonce's little sis that any of this matters, cause honestly neither one of them are all that talented if you ask me. It's women like Tamia, Ledisi, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Coko, Lil' Mo, Faith Evans, etc...that deserve all the accolades and props, cause those girls can really sing!!! They don't have to shake their asses, hair and wear skimpy clothes to appeal to the masses, their talent speaks for itself, nuff said!

hmmm,
had a kid at 17 wants to be a star with her own life. more power to ya kid, but it's no longer just about YOU.
Maybe Britney can take care of your son?
Maybe she should have tried babysitting first, then getting an education (which her sister didn't get either) and then working on that career thing.

This comment is for China # 13 who commented that Beyonce is overated and that Alicia Keys is more beautiful. Beyonce deserves all of the recognition that she gets. She is a helluva entertainer and she is alot better than her female counterparts. As far as Alicia keys goes... she may be beautiful but she is not a good entertainer. All she does is bop back and forth like some drunk girl in the club on a Friday night. She does not even have the vocal agility or range that Beyonce has. She plays the piano well and has a mediocre voice. She should stick to writing songs for Christina Aguillera to sing them. Lte me please remind you that we are talking about talent and not beauty. Would you still be singing the praises of Alicia Keys if she was still rocking her old school dyke style?
