Holy Toledo!!!Even being on television serving up dish to a middle aged, mostly female, mainstream demographic every single day couldn't stop Whoopi Goldberg's radio show from being pulled off the airwaves.
This season's new co-host of ABC's long running gabfest 'The View' may have developed a reputation over the years from engaging the common man with her comedic timing, political rants and acting chops – but that didn't make the muster on New York's Clear Channel Communications radio station WKTU, where her ambitious morning show , 'Wake Up with Whoopi' debuted July 2006.
The family-friendly program with upbeat music, light comedy and heavy lifestyle talk – a sharp comparison to other shows the airwaves – didn't go over to well with The Big Apple. With no warning, the show didn't broadcast on Nov. 28. Instead, a local jock filled in.
According to the New York Daily News, the Premiere Radio-distributed syndicated radio program never found an audience to crack the Top 10 in the city.
"I'm still on the radio," the Academy Award winning actress of 'Ghost' said in an interview yesterday. "Just not in New York." She has a remaining 20 months on her contract and said she plans on fulfilling the obligation.
In the meantime, her daily grind at 'The View' keeps her away from being tied to movie sets, but she is planning a one-woman stage show about the legendary black female comedian Moms Mabley.

one misconception people seem to have is that Funny people are 'on' and Funny 24/7.
there are some things Nobody should joke about, and when a comedian or commedienne is Serious, perhaps it's worth listening to?
I like a little light amusement in the morning, or any time...but don't need to laugh 'til my cheeks hurt to be impressed w/radio content.

I love Whoopi. She is incredible at being the crass, low-class no talent, terribly unfunny comedienne shes been her whole career. Doing things like grabbing her crotch, using language that makes a bathroom grafitti scribe seem smart, and constantly shoving her cliched political opinions down everyones throat all add to her classy image. I can only imagine the stimulating conversations one could get into with that woman...er man. Or her fans...

Iam 70 plus white female and I adore Whoopi. Iam not from NY, but from NV and that is in the USA. I agree with the ruck driver. Murphy. That station is really making a BIG mistake. No one turns off Whoopi...I don't care who she sides with. As "Pretty Woman" said to the sales clerk on Rodeo Dr. "Big mistake, hugh."
