One of black America's funniest men is embroiled in a messy alimony scandal -- and it's no laughing matter. The ex-wife of Steve Harvey, the nationally syndicated radio personality also known as one of 'The Original Kings of Comedy,' is crying foul for being duped into signing away her rights to his hefty fortune in a shady divorce deal.
Mary Lee Harvey (pictured right with the comic during happier times) is claiming that she was conned into a quickie separation of marriage devised by the entertainer and his attorney, Ricky Anderson -- who allegedly sought to keep private details about the comic's adultery, poor and neglectful parenting, and "physical and mental abuse" of his ex-spouse.
According to documents made available at TheSmokingGun.com, the former Mrs. Harvey filed a lawsuit on Nov. 20 claiming that she was defrauded by the comedian and the couple's longtime attorney, who represented both sides in the November 2005 proceedings.Talk about a raw deal.
The result was her being unaware of her rights to independent counsel and being severely shortchanged when it came to alimony, division of community property, and child support – which amounts to a paltry monthly payment of $1,000 for the couple's son.
Meanwhile Harvey, who hosted the nationally syndicated variety show 'Showtime at the Apollo' and fronted other TV shows throughout the years, is living happily ever after with another woman, Majorie Bridges (pictured left in July during the 2007 Essence Music Festival). The couple reportedly married during a family vacation to Hawaii.
Known to be highly outspoken about a number of subjects, the usually loud and proud member of the Omega Psi Phi black fraternity is surprisingly remaining mum about this dud of an alimony deal.
Elivra Guzman, a former radio station intern turned personal publicist for Harvey, didn't immediately respond to queries seeking comment from him.
When probed for a response, the flak retorted, "I am very nice person and I show everyone respect ... I do not understand why you continue to disrespect me and give me times lines."
To add injury to insult, she added: "I will simply not work with you if you continue to display this type of attitude."
Harvey, who is involved with a great and exciting community initiative with Walt Disney World Resorts (Disney Dreamers Academy), should be saying the same thing about her.

Steve is a nice guy; and we are not perfect. He seems to have made peace with his mistakes. I wish the best for ex-wife. and Bless his new marriage. WE are not to judge. there is his side, her side and the truth.

I like Steve Harvey a lot and I still watch the Steve Harvey Show every morning. It is hard for me to believe what is being said about him. I will say this that woman had to know she could get her on attorney unless her head has been buried in the sand. Therefore I don't feel sorry for her, if he did what she said she should have left a long time ago. But what I am trying to say is if there is no proof he did anything I will stand behind Steve.

We realy don't know the real stroy behind steve and his wife. we can not judge others, and beside it is between them. Steve has realy changed his life and gave it to "GOD" JESUS and that is the 1st thing we should praise GOD about. Before he starts his show he give GOD his priases first. The wife I know is suffering too. It is not easy to love a man for 10 years and then all of a sudden he is gone. I just pray that GOD continues to blees the both of them, and that they can respect each other for the children sake. One thing we have to remember is our children learn from us and they grow up to.
Thanks,
Klea Harper-Charles

Look so many people have so much to say, but we really don't know what really happen in the marriage or if he really did all that was said if she was mad after she found out she could have gotten more money, mad because he remarriaged, so she is sayiing all of these things I known this to happen before. Now, on the other hand if could all be true. She should have checked everything out in the beginning and got her own lawyer up front. I say what ever they do is on them. how many of you that have written something negative really got room to talk, cause somewhere in your life time present, pass, or future it will be you. Why post it on the net that not very nice. I must say is the funniest man alive.

What kind of attorney would represent both sides at the same time? Can you say "conflict of interest?"

Only Steve, his ex-wife and God knows the truth. It is a personal matter. Only God can judge. People love to judge other people. No human can judge another. Didn't Jesus tell us to remove the blank from your own eye. Let he who is WITHOUT SIN cast the first stone. If any wrong doing was done on Mr. Harveys part then it is up to the Lord to judge him and get revenge. Revenge is mine said the Lord. There are always two sides to a story and it only gets told right once and thats the first time. Quick question. Why would the ex-wife wait all this time to complain about the settlement? Is she fully baked? She had to sign an agreement right?
