One of black America's funniest men is embroiled in a messy alimony scandal -- and it's no laughing matter. The ex-wife of Steve Harvey, the nationally syndicated radio personality also known as one of 'The Original Kings of Comedy,' is crying foul for being duped into signing away her rights to his hefty fortune in a shady divorce deal.
Mary Lee Harvey (pictured right with the comic during happier times) is claiming that she was conned into a quickie separation of marriage devised by the entertainer and his attorney, Ricky Anderson -- who allegedly sought to keep private details about the comic's adultery, poor and neglectful parenting, and "physical and mental abuse" of his ex-spouse.
According to documents made available at TheSmokingGun.com, the former Mrs. Harvey filed a lawsuit on Nov. 20 claiming that she was defrauded by the comedian and the couple's longtime attorney, who represented both sides in the November 2005 proceedings.Talk about a raw deal.
The result was her being unaware of her rights to independent counsel and being severely shortchanged when it came to alimony, division of community property, and child support – which amounts to a paltry monthly payment of $1,000 for the couple's son.
Meanwhile Harvey, who hosted the nationally syndicated variety show 'Showtime at the Apollo' and fronted other TV shows throughout the years, is living happily ever after with another woman, Majorie Bridges (pictured left in July during the 2007 Essence Music Festival). The couple reportedly married during a family vacation to Hawaii.
Known to be highly outspoken about a number of subjects, the usually loud and proud member of the Omega Psi Phi black fraternity is surprisingly remaining mum about this dud of an alimony deal.
Elivra Guzman, a former radio station intern turned personal publicist for Harvey, didn't immediately respond to queries seeking comment from him.
When probed for a response, the flak retorted, "I am very nice person and I show everyone respect ... I do not understand why you continue to disrespect me and give me times lines."
To add injury to insult, she added: "I will simply not work with you if you continue to display this type of attitude."
Harvey, who is involved with a great and exciting community initiative with Walt Disney World Resorts (Disney Dreamers Academy), should be saying the same thing about her.

Be for real. His life really is his business, just as your perfect life is, if you get what I mean. Until you hear from his mouth and her mouth, not the internet, then stop judging. We all really shouldnt have so much invested interested in another human being. Haven't you heard People let you down all the time. They had there share of good times and bad times. God forbid if there was phyical abuse, if so, then it should of been dealt with durning there marriage, not after you feel you were cheated out of money. That's hate and slapping the other cheek, two wrongs dont make a right. All kids deserve to have a father figure ifthe opportunity presents itself. Whats wrong with raising another mans kids. Dont go there.... Give people a break; read the infromation without drawing your own conclusion until you hear (from their mouth) otherwise. MORE IMPROTANTLY

it is sad that we live in a society that is so possesed with other peoples private lives. how would like your private life exposed. it is none of your business about his or no one else private life.

I hope they can settle things in a decent way because his young son will effected by this also. I listen to his morning show and i alway hated when he said "i've never been this happy in my life" referring to the new wife. that is a slap to his children with mary - i hated that i thought it was disrespectful and i guess this lawsuit explains why he dosn't say it any more - his attorney probably told him to shut up.
another reaqder comment i read ealier said something about raising other people's kids - have you seen the picture of steve with his seven children - Mary & Marjorie's kids look a like - strong resemblence -

FIrst of all, It is not our responsibility to pass judgement. That responsibility relies solely on God.
Secondly, we do not know all the facts. If the truth be known we all have skeletons in our closets and under our beds. But because we are not in the lime light our secrets for the most part are between us and the Lord. Let us clean our house and not worry Mr. Harvey's house.
Finally, if we spent as much time tending to our business and not others folks biz then we would be better off and our time would be utilized more wisely.

Steve Harvey, i thought was a senstive, nice, caring man, even on "THE STEVE HARVEY SHOW." I dont know what went on in their marriage, but somehow when things began to go wrong someone should have started to "conversate" and find out what the problem was, and if someone else was involved then dont hold back because it will hurt even worse when the person finds out on the "down low." I say Steve, dont mistreat your child because of what happened w/the wife and you..use some of your thoughts/ideas that you extend to listeners everyday..fess up, be the man we(the public)think/thought you are/were.... jan.

You know, Steve Harvey is a great guy, not just cause he is funny, but in his personal life. For those of you who don't understant his comedy, too bad. As for his marriage, everyone know that once your in the entertainment business, you travel all the time, she knew that before she married him, while he was in Los angeles, he traveled back to Houston as often as possible, Look a bernie macs wife, she never tripped cause she knew what her husband did and had confidense in him. I think that Mary Lee is just mad now that he has a new wife. She Got his multi-million dollar ranch in texas, what next does she want his drouse! And for those critics, I don't think that Steve has to justify his move to anyone, but God. He is doing the right thing showing class and integrity by now responding negatively to Mary Lees allegations.I wish Steve much and more success. Love cjmac69

Everyone is judging Steve Harvey based on what she said. I am sure she is getting more than a grand. I am not defending him but people mind ur own business and stay out of his. I am sure your relationship is not "perfect" and u are having problems too. There are 3 sides to a story. Her side, his side and God's side.

MOST OF THE TIME THINGS ARE PUT OUT BY THE MEDIA AND MORE LIKELY THEY ARE FAR FROM THE TRUTH SO NO ONE KNOWS WHATS REALLY GOING ON IN HIS PERSONAL LIFE THERE ARE THREE SIDES TO EVERY STORY HIS SIDE, HER SIDE, AND THE TRUTH. HOWEVER IF THERE IS ANY TRUTH TO THIS PLEASE PRAY FOR THE MAN AND LET GOD DO THE REST NONE OF US ARE PERFECT INCLUDING STEVE HARVEY.

I would like to say that everybody that said bad things about my boy Steve, sit back and think about it what they read in the paper or how every they found out, i do"t think that he would do that to his ex wife and son. Frist of all we don't know what really happen. so to say what has been said is not right. judge yourself befor yor judge others.
