The one and only Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin celebrated her 66th birthday in high style. She and a group of intimate friends took up an audience at Broadway's Broadhurst Theatre on March 25th to see the Debbie Allen-helmed all-black version of Tennessee Williams' classic play 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.' Backstage, cast-members (l-r) Anika Noni Rose, Phylicia Rashad and Terrence Howard showed Franklin much love and R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

You know what I hate most about blogs is the low standards many of the contributions must meet to be introduced to the blogs. Blogs should not be a sounding board for hate messages, foul language, or people who are just small-minded.
You've comments about a performance of "Bridge Over Trouble Waters", from 35 years ago. Please!
And the weight comments. Aretha Franklin is in her sixties, not twenties. Let see how thin you remain as you grow older.
It's not just this blog. Every blog I enter lately is peppered with mean comments, ignorance, and foul, racist, and sexist comments. Actually, this has been one of the least offensive blogs I've entered this week.
The Blog community really need to step up. I think this more about public decency than Freedom of Speech.

Aretha Franklin is amazing! Terrence Howard is so pretty! If that man were any hotter, well, your computer would be on fire!

This is ridiculous. So a black woman goes to an all black production of a play. It is written about on Black Voices.
Tell me again how the WHITE people of the world are racist?

I will not be mistaken for a house not in my 70's or even my 60's. She obviously cares more about food than taking smart care of herself. I think she is / was a great performer. I don't care if you're a world class performer or anyone, it's sad to see on a human.

I can remember singing "Respect" and "Natural Woman"
with my friends in our Problems of Democracy class
in the late 60s. You rocked us then and you still
rock us!! You are an inspiration to all women
regardless of color because you have not allowed the
Skinny Minnie image-makers to dictate your life. I
have been and always been your fan -- I also did/do
my singing primarily in church and sing best in that
context.
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Aretha Franklin!!!!!
