The gavel seems to be coming down hard on rappers – well at least some of them.Today, Grammy Award nominated rapstress Remy Ma was convicted for shooting a woman outside of a trendy Manhattan pizza eatery last summer.
According to published reports, Remy Ma (real name: Reminisce Smith) was led out of a Manhattan courtroom, weeping and in handcuffs.
The 26-year old former Terror Squad front-woman could face up to 25 years in prison following her conviction in state Supreme Court for assault, weapon possession and attempted coercion.
The Associated Press reports that the brazen Bronx native "quietly wiped away tears as the verdict was read, then wailed loudly and sobbed openly after she was outside the courtroom."
Many of her supporters also reportedly cried.
Justice Rena Uviller ordered Remy Ma jailed without bail while awaiting her April 23 sentencing.
Though the 'Lean Back' diva didn't beat the main charges, she was acquitted of witness tampering and gang assault -- charges related to a Bronx nightclub altercation with the boyfriend of a witness who ultimately testified against her.
This whole messy legal ordeal stemmed from the July 14, 2007 shooting of Makeda Barnes Joseph, whom Remy shot in her car after demanding that she dump her purse.
The defense had conceded that the entertainer fired a shot toward a friend she suspected of stealing $3,000, but said it was an accident.
I know street people and street mentality but is your freedom worth $3,000?
Speak the truth and shame the devil.

I couldn't care less what happened to this young woman. In Durham we have a young man in all the papers who was arrested for killing a white girl and linked to the murder of Asian graduate student, and the city... state, no the nation is up in arms because of it. But the truth is that this level violence committed by this young man was allowed to go on because they thought that the vicitms would reflect his race and social background. Haven't any of you wondered why our neighborhoods are flooded with people who have killed before, and why when these same people export their violence to another community that we never see them again? They spend the minimum amout amount of time in prison and are returned to commit more atrocities and wreck more families including their own. I say lock that ignorant heifer up and throw away the friggin key. Don't we have enough trouble with rabid cops (yeah I lived in NY for 40 years)? One less gangster-wanna-be-testosterone-filled threat taken off the streets.

I DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT HAPPENED , I DON'T KNOW IF THAT WAS ALL THE MONEY SHE HAD OR WHAT. BUT STILL NOW SHE IS GOING TO JAIL FOR 3,000 DOLLARS POSSIBLY FOR A LONG TIME. I MEAN WAS IT WORTH IT. U DIDNT HAVE TO SHOOT HER WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO BEATING A PERSON UP FIRST. I MEAN I KNOW THAT DOESN'T SOLVE ANYTHING. BUT ATLEAST U WOULD NOT BE FACING ALL THIS TIME. MAYBE THAT WAS ALL THE MONEY SHE HAD BUT STILL I WOULD HAVE SLAPPED HER BEFORE SHOOTING HER. COME ON REMY THINK FIRST.

Now they know that Remy dont need to do no 25years or nothing like that... other rappers have done things worse than that whereas they could have faced a # of years in jail like a normal person with no or little money but they gave them a break and let them pay their way out. So whats the different with Remy anyway aint like the girl died. Lets be real... when rappers get caught up with the law it always 2 sides: the public know pieces whereas they know that many dont do the gave time and come home on parole...

This is very, very sad situation for this young woman's son. How in the world can she guide her son or teach him right from wrong when she cannot control her own temper? I cannot understand how any woman can put money before her her own life, or the life of her children. Freedom and the gift of life is so precious and should be valued each and every day. There is no price on an individual's life. Did she ever think about that? Have our black people lost their minds? Are some black people so into the ghetto thug mentality that they feel like to have street credibility that they must use a gun? Was $3,000 worth destroying everything that you have worked for? The ghetto thug slave mentality lives on. She needs to ask God, the woman that she shot, and the judge for forgiveness and hope that she is granted mercy. In a heated moment, she had a choice and unfortunately, she made the wrong choice. Now she must take responsibility for her behavior and for her actions. SMH.

We ALL make mistakes. The girl forgave her, and wanted the charges dropped. Remy has a 7 year old son, so who is really losing out here? I agree, what she did was wrong, but she is getting more time than child abusers.

Well People do silly things that seems sensible (to themselves) at that moment but hope things work out for her. But also take it as a lessoned learned no one is above the law you can't get mad and just shoot someone if that's the case everyone would be in jail or in the hospital

It's a sad situation when anyone regardless of notority finds themselves in this position. To loose everything because of poor judgement is a hard pill to swallow. Showing some fear through tears doesn't seem so gansta, but it's the reality of shock and seeing your life change in the blink of an eye. I really wonder how many of us would cry if we where in the same situation. I know, I know...you'll just say, i'm not in that B*tches situation so i'm LMFAO anyway, and besides, she did the crime and now she gotta do the time! Come peeps...if no ones trying to kill you, stop trying to kill them!
