Despite his album, 'Tha Carter III' being leaked to the internet two weeks prior to its June 10 release, Lil Wayne (born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) has cracked the million mark and went platinum with 1,005,000 albums sold during the first week of release.Not only has Weezy (as he is known) topped this week's album charts he has also earned the title of being the first artist (since 50 Cent's 2005 collection 'The Massacre') to sell more than one million copies within its debut week.
Kanye West (who produced two tracks on 'Tha Carter III') was the only other artist to come close when he released his 2007 album 'Graduation,' which put up 957,000 during its first week out.
As for Mr. Carter's reaction to the big news, he released a video clip late Tuesday evening thanking everyone from fellow 'Carter' collaborator Jay-Z to Universal Records honcho Sylvia Rhone (who is highlighted in our Black Music Month celebration.)The New Orleans native apparently doesn't have any intentions on slowing down his workload as 'the greatest rapper alive' -- as he self-proclaims.
In addition to co-staring alongside Forest Whitaker later this year in the film 'Hurricane Season,' he also has plans to form a super group with hip-hop soul crooner T-Pain.
From reportedly releasing his own brand champagne next month, to hitting the road on June 27 to begin his 'Carter III' tour, Lil Wayne is one busy man.
The top-selling album consists of collaborations from Robin Thicke, Jay Z, T-Pain, and Babyface with production from Kanye West, David Banner, Cool & Dre and Swizz Beatz among others.

Congrats to Weezy. I did have the bootleg for a minute, but now I got the album. He's come along way from the Hot Boy days and wobbly wobbly/shake it shake it.

Lil Wayne is the greatest talent alive in this industry but I pray that he will get his live together and leave that syurp alone and get closer to God so he can take him to the next level because God has great plans for Lil Wayne and expects great things from him. God did not give you this oppurtunity for you to waste it but to save this young generation in a need of help. I believe you are the one Lil Wayne, let's get it, not for us but for God's children our brother's and sister's who need us. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us!
