On June 20, neo-soul diva Jill Scott celebrated her Carnegie Hall debut with a special announcement of her new engagement to young drummer Lil' Jon Roberts. While she began to sing a tear-filled intro to her signature song 'He Loves Me (Lyzel In E Flat),' the blond-striped coiffed musician emerged with a bouquet of yellow roses and kissed the double-Grammy Award winner after whispering sweet sentiments in her left ear.
The sold-out crowd, who came to partake in one of the biggest highlights of "The 2008 JVC Jazz Festival," cheered its approval – some standing at their feet.
Scott, who was divorced from her longtime lover Lyzel Williams last year, beamed as she revealed the secret news to the rapturous audience.

Not much is publicly known about Roberts, who is believed to be from Scott's Philadelphia hometown.
Though a rep for the singer declined comment about the couple, Blackvoices.com can report that Roberts was with Scott on (and offstage) during her performance at "The 2008 Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival" in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
"I'd get married because I want to share all of this with someone," Scott, 36, shared with Blackvoices.com, while promoting her big screen acting debut in 'Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married?' last fall.
"I just mean who I am and the blessings that I have, I want to share it. That's why I would get married again."
On June 29, TV One will premiere a one-hour Jill Scott concert special. Roberts can be seen prominently throughout the show.

Loving Jill and her music doesn't preclude me from weighing in on this in an honest way...I don't see this marriage working and I wonder if she's just another desperado needing to get married. This guy is looking to be set for life.

First and foremost, Congratulations
to Jill and John on their engagement! Secondly, I must agree with Keni on this, being engaged today does not mean that they are getting married tomorrow! Let's hope that TIME will allow for this love to truly ascend and grow if it is so meant to be. All I can say is this, that whatever, whatever, those that love Jill and her music, be it while intimating the pleasures of her life or the pain, we will be the ultimate benefiters. Believe that!

First of all who are we to judge anyone or judge what they do or become in their lives?. We have not walked in her shoes, and take it from me everyone deserves to be happy. How dare you set up a poll on someone life, IT IS NONE OF OUR BUSINESS who she gets married to or doesn't get married to. We should pray for them both to have a loving and happy marriage because life is so short. If we as human beings would check out our own back yards first, then there would not be so much mess in this world today.
Ms. Scott u go girl and best wishes to u and your new husband to be. Luv u girlfirend.

First of all who are we to judge anyone for being in love? We should all be happy for her and new husband to be, and pray for them. life is to short for all this negativeness and polling people on if they are or if they are not. Poll yourself and see what you get, if we as human beings would look at our own back yards first and clean up,then this world would be a much better place.
I am so happy for you Ms. Scott, you and your new husband to be are going to very blessed and very happy together, never mind these haters. I wish you both a long and happy life together be strong in the lord and always stay true to yourself.
Luv you girl.

Dave and all of you that have kindergarten maturity (and this is insulting kinder-garteners) you need to stop typing and pick up a book that teaches you "respect". And to say that she is not normal because of her size? What cave did you escape from???

I wish Jill the best. If her thinking is anything like the lyrics in her songs then she is pretty level headed and can handle herself and situations with a good sense of maturity. You never know when love will come, but when it does sometimes it hits as a bolt of lightening in the midst of a summer storm! I will admit that upon reading this news at first I thought "wow, that's pretty quick," but then I settled on she knows what's best for Jill and that's all that matters. With that said, I wish she and her new guy all the best! Peace & Blessings ~ Elle
