Is Laurence Fishburne up for a game of musical chairs?
Apparently so.
The Academy Award nominated, Emmy and Tony Award winning thespian is reportedly readying a role on the hit CBS drama series, 'C.S.I.: Crime Scene Investigation.'It's the classic case of one actor out, and another one in.
We've seen this with 'Law & Order' when Jesse L. Martin departed from his longtime post to make way for Anthony Anderson to join the long running Dick Wolf series.
And when Mandy Patinkin abruptly departed the CBS drama 'Criminal Minds,' Joe Mantegna stepped in on the scene as the show's ringleader.
This fall, Academy Award nominated beauty Angela Bassett will join the cast of NBC's 'E.R.' Mekhi Phifer, who starred on the series as Dr. Gregory Pratt for a few seasons, will depart shortly after.
Fishburne, who has won raves on Broadway for his portrayal of late civil rights pioneer Thurgood Marshall in the play 'Thurgood,' is reportedly in talks to replace William Petersen who recently exited the show.Ironically, Gary Dourdan – who portrayed Detective Warrick Brown for eight seasons – was let go from the show towards the end of last season.
He was the lone black lead character on the series.
Fishburne, known as a bankable box-office star, has starred in the films 'Apocalypse Now,' 'What's Love Got to do With it?,' the mega-successful 'Matrix' trilogy, 'Akeelah and the Bee' and '21.'
The Augusta, Georgia born actor won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in the 1992 August Wilson play, 'Two Trains Running.'
No official word if the 'C.S.I.' deal is set in place, but all roads are pointing towards that.
According to 'Reuters,' the search for a new lead has been shrouded in secrecy, but Fishburne is being heavily courted to play the new character, described as a doctor/scientist outsider to the CSI unit who has the same genetic profile as a serial killer but hasn't previously acted on any homicidal impulses.
Other top choices for the role include John Malkovich and Kurt Russell.

Laurence would be fantastic in this role and can't wait to watch. CSI is one of my favorites, anyways. Please, please don't put John Malkovich in - can't stand him.

I'm a big fan of the whole cast, past and present. I'm disappointed that Petersen and Dourdan are gone, but actor's do burn out eventually. Good luck to both of them.
However, this is starting to smell like the X-Files to me.

Personally, I think that John Malkovich would make a better replacement considering the role that they are intending to use.
Either one would be good, but good God, no Kurt Russell please!

Why, oh why, change the actors? I was stunned when Dourdan was killed off and then I heard William Petersen (an actor who I love)was leaving. This is nothing against Fishburne. I watch so little TV and this was such a favorite. I guess instead of complaining I should be grateful for what we had.

I'm so upset that Gil will be leaving. I really enjoy this show and it just isn't going to be the same. Laurence Fishburn will not fit this show properly. Having him in it could very kill the show. On the other hand, he may be able to do it despite the fact that I, and others, feel that he won't fit the show. Joe Mantegna didn't end up killing Criminal Minds even though people thought that he would.
I would love it if they brought back Warrick, however, it isn't possible. Everyone who is saying they should bring him back and they pulled him from the show are wrong and obviously don't know why this happened to begin with. It was legally impossible for the show to keep him at this point because he was arrested on drug charges and is serving his punishment for that. So, unless we want to create CSI:Prison, he won't be coming back just yet.

If anybody wants to get 40% to 60 % more out of a tank of gas you have to add a Hydrogen cell to your vehicle. Do a search on “Hydrogen” or “Run Your Car On Water” and include YouTube. Happy motoring!

I knew it was too good to last! The perfect cast of characters (minus the ass-twisting, head-tossing blonde, Catherine!), CSI was perfect. Fantastic chemistry yet professionalism between Jorja Fox and William Petersen's characters...and Gary Dourdan??? who could not love Warrick!!! And now, they just had to screw around with it and lose Jorja, then letting Dourdan go and now Petersen gone. The show won't be worth a crap to watch!
Don't get me wrong ... I think Laurence Fisburne is a FABULOUS actor that has a lot to contribute to whatever he performs in, but CSI already had the perfect combination. When you disrupt the foundation (Petersen) and the balance (Fox and Dourdan) ... even with something equally as sturdy (Fishburne), you will have disrupted the integrity and stability of the show, putting it on very shaky ground.
I agree with the other posters...my DVR will now have one less show to record each week.
Ms. Fox and Messrs. Petersen and Dourdan ... I wish you the very, very best in your future acting endeavors and hope to see each of you on my television very soon! =(
