Despite releasing anti-police songs earlier in his career, actor-rapper Ice Cube is set to make his mark on network television behind the boys in blue.
Cube (born O'Shea Jackson) has signed on to write and executive produce an as-yet-untitled police comedy for the NBC network. Which will be produced via Universal Media Studios and Cube's own production company, Cube Vision.
According to NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios chairman Ben Silverman, the N.W.A. founder is the perfect candidate for the network's continued growth.
"As we continue to expand our roster of diverse talent both on-camera and behind the camera, a guy like Ice Cube, who's multitalented, is someone we really wanted to be in business with," Silverman said. "He's had an amazing career, to have gone from NWA to this."
Although the multi-talented Compton native isn't expected to appear in the upcoming series, NBC executives are leaving the door open for the actor to make a few guest appearances. Not to mention lending some of his musical expertise to the show's soundtrack.
"We really want to capture his voice and his eye for talent, and his producing acumen," Silverman explained. "If he appeared in the pilot or series, we'd be really excited about that."
In addition to starring and directing film's such 'The Player's Club' and 'Are We There Yet?,' Ice Cube executive produced FX's 2006 reality show 'Black. White.' And Showtime's short-lived series 'Barbershop,' which was based off of his 2002 feature film.
