Ever wonder what happened to 'A Man Called Hawk'?
Avery Brooks – that actor who garnered mainstream fame on the hit ABC series 'Spenser: For Hire' and its above-mentioned spin-off – is still working his magic and mesmerizing audiences in the process.
It's not on the small screen though; the baritone-voiced thespian is all the way live.

The Evansville, Indiana native recently directed 'God's Trombone' -- Craig Harris's brilliant new musical theater work interpreting James Weldon Johnson's 1927 collection of sermons by traveling African-American preachers.
The tour-de-force production recently performed a sold-out engagement as part of Harlem Stage's WaterWorks series at New York City's Aaron Davis Hall before making its way to Milan, Italy where they played at the Teatro Manzoni.
A Shakespearean actor of great credibility, Brooks previously appeared at Aaron Davis Hall in 'Paul Robeson,' the play about the great activist, actor and scholar and was the singing lead in the Anthony Davis opera.
"Many people do not know that Avery is an incredible musician and vocalist," Harris said in an interview about the show. "I have known Avery for 20 odd years and since I worked with him before, I called him and he was delighted to do this project. I think ... Avery is a prolific person and studied artist."
Brooks is currently a tenured professor of theater at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, where he was the school's first Black MFA graduate in acting and directing.

Avery is not an Evansville, Indiana native. He grew up and graduated high school in Gary, Indiana. I went to school with him and even back then he was active in Madrigals and Drama. Loves it!

What type of person was he? I have been in love with him for years and I have always imagined him as being focused, driven, serious, intelligent, sexy, and with and undercover soft side that is only exposed to those closest to him. How much of my fantasy can I truly believe in?

How can I forget Hawk? He started me to reading the Spenser novels. I wanted to be just like him. I sarted bounty hunting on the streets of Dallas, Texas.
However, I was sure that the spinoff would never work, because who Hawk was. He was a "good man", but a very "bad person." For Hawk was a hitman, freelance enforcer and a mercenary. Not a image for TV. Would never have worked, except changing his image for TV---and no one who had read the Spenser novels would go for it. I didn't.

It only goes to show that it is not talent which puts people on TV and the movies, but other things(like giving the director head). You cannot get jobs on talent alone.
