While the subject of Barack Obama this week is centered around what big names will be present at his inauguration and what official balls he and his wife and future first lady Michelle will attend, a documentary on America's next president is gearing up for a timely release.

'Barack Obama: The Man and His Journey,' the first full-length DVD documentary about President Elect Barack Obama, will be hit stores on Jan. 20 – the same day as the former Illinois Senator becomes America's first African American President.

It includes noteworthy footage of key moments during both the 2008 primaries and the general election – culminating on election day on November 4, 2008.

Golden Globe nominated actor Blair Underwood narrates the documentary, which also includes interviews with a who's who of entertainment, business, political and academic figures. People like Tom Joyner, Roland Martin, George Lopez, Martin Luther King III and Hill Harper, who supported his Harvard Law classmate on the campaign trail, all discuss what it means to have a black man in the nation's highest office.

Obama's Harvard Law professor, Laurence Tribe as well as biographer and 'Chicago Tribune' reporter David Mendell also weigh in on Obama's historical contributions.

'Journey' also includes a previously unreleased original song by Grammy nominee Brian McKnight called 'Yes We Can,' which was inspired by Obama's Presidential victory.

This documentary marks the first project from former CBS news anchor Maria Arita's new film company, Veridicus Films.

Arita felt an obligation to make this documentary after hearing Obama's Iowa Victory speech in January 2008. 'Upon hearing the speech and seeing the diverse crowd -- the tears, the hope, the need for change ringing out across the country -- I too was driven to tears. We, as a country were entering into a space we'd never before occupied, of oneness and possible healing. I had to find a way to do more with my voice than to parrot what was coming down the news path.'

So with little money and no prior film-making experience, the Emmy award-winner got to work and created 'Journey,' the follow-up to her earlier work 'Barack Obama: Who Is This Guy?,' an exploration pre-election of Obama's political journey.

'Barack Obama: The Man and His Journey' will be released this Tuesday, January 20, 2008.
