There is good reason why they are called "oldies but goodies."Just ask Ashford & Simpson, who continue to stand the test of time with their infectious modern R&B standards -- nearly 45 years since their first big hit.
The dynamic duo has crafted an inventive remix of their 25-year-old hit song, 'Solid (As A Rock)'; this go round, refashioned into what could be a new anthem, titled 'Solid (As Barack).'A tribute to President Barack Obama, the catchy ode was released digitally on Jan. 20 – the same historic day he was inaugurated as the first African American President of the United States of America.
The hit-making husband and wife team (who is well into their 60s) premiered the song on 'Larry King Live' during the inauguration weekend. That's where it was revealed that the demand for the remix has been overwhelming since a recent airing of a version of the song on 'Saturday Night Live,' which was performed by the comedic cast of the series.
This new version, complete with expanded lyrics for the entire song, is a reverential tribute to Obama.
As many know; a who's who of big-named music acts including Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Smokey Robinson The Supremes, Chaka Khan, Marvin Gaye, Whitney Houston and Mary J. Blige have recorded songs by the hit-making duo.
Even last year's top Grammy Award winner Amy Winehouse gave them props; the single 'Tears Dry On Their Own' (from her 'Back to Black' album) is based on Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's 1967 Motown classic hit 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough.' They, themselves, have had a string of hits including 'It Seems To Hang On,' 'High-Rise,' 'Street Corner,' 'Found A Cure,' 'Is it Still Good To You' and 'Send It,' among others.
And on Jan. 27, Burgundy Records/Sony will release a definitive collection of their greatest hits titled 'The Real Thing.' It's the very first-ever live in-concert audio and video recordings of performances by the duo.

This is for Marlene: So you are offended that their is a Black Voices? Were you and are you offended when blacks were lynched, slaughtered and denied the right to vote, sit where-ever they pleased on city buses, inter state buses, attend school, city colleges, state universities, sporting events and enlist into the armed forces and enter segregated service units! You are not offended by the title "Black Voices." You are offended by the fact that blacks have a web site which is designated just for them. You were not offended when Miss America was for whites only or for any institution when it was for whites only! You do not have to come here or read the pages. AOL is only interested in money, and they are making money. Are you offended by the web sites for Asians or Latino's! I speak Spanish and French, and I do not see any of you bigots over there on Latino AOL spewing your inflammatory crap on that site! Maybe it because you cannot speak Espanol! LOL!

#14; Margaret,
You must be joking! Ask your (white) people what race President Obama is; they made up the one drop rule. You know, if you have one drop of Black blood in you, you’re considered Black. You weren’t around during slavery, but the hate & attitude of your ancestors have been passed down to you if you are a typical white person. Reverse racism? I thought you said whites were mistakenly accused of suppression. No, whites have OPPRESSED African Americans. How could it be reverse racism if whites have never been racist according to you? You know better than that! I can just feel the hate while reading your post. I guess you’re afraid that white people will be treated less than animals the way African Americans have been treated. I have good news & bad news. You don’t have to worry about African Americans oppressing whites, but whites will reap what they sow. I don’t have a clue as to how it will happen; that’s between white people & God. Instead of trying to convince people that whites love African Americans, you need to get on your knees & pray for mercy. As far as President Obama giving African Americans breaks, he is president to all Americans.
