BV Newswire has exclusively learned that Tony Award-winning actress Phylicia Rashad has been tapped to star in the critically acclaimed drama 'August: Osage County.'According to a production insider, she will take over the role of Violet Weston on May 26 in the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning play directed by Anna D. Shapiro. The character is the pill-popping, acid-tongued, no-holds-barred central figure previously portrayed by white actresses Deanna Dunagan and Estelle Parsons.
'August' originally played on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre in December 2007 and moved over to the Music Box Theatre four months later to continue its record-breaking run.
Rashad, whose theater credits include 'Dreamgirls,' August Wilson's 'The Gem of the Ocean,' 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof' and a Tony Award-winning role in a glitzy revival of 'A Raisin in the Sun,' gained international acclaim as the matriarch on the groundbreaking, Emmy Award-winning sitcom 'The Cosby Show.'
The 60-year-old actress recently made headlines when she became the spokeswoman for Jenny Craig.

I just love Phylicia Rashad, I have always held her in high esteem, but for some reason I hate seeing her playing the part of a drug addict. I rather see her playing her wholesome self. I know she will be terrific in the part being played, just hate watching it.

Ms. Rashad is always a class act. Watched Cosby Show for years along with the rest of America, still catch it once in awhile on TVLand. Very attractive and talented lady...her sister Debbie Allen rocks, too!!

Phylicia Rashad, I don't know if it was the cosby show but she has an aura about herself that demands you give her respect, Such as not phylicia but Ms Rashad. Now i'm quite sure in real life she is to those whom she know, is as friendly and nice as can be. I think that when anyone want to describe a proud black female role model, Ms rashad name would be in the top five, she continue to leave big foot steps for thoughs to follow in
