"You need somebody to tell you the truth in this moment. And the truth is guys, both Chris Brown and Rihanna, if I were your friend, I would call you up and I would say, 'Give it some time, get yourself some counseling, take care of yourself, heal yourself first.' And also, 'Love doesn't hurt.' I've been saying this to women for years. Love doesn't hurt. And if a man hits you once, he will hit you again. He will hit you again. I don't care what his plea is, he will hit you again."
-- Media maven Oprah Winfrey weighing in on the alleged domestic abuse involving Chris Brown and Rihanna. ('The Oprah Winfrey Show')

Shauna is a perfect example of what the issue is. History, statistics, etc. ALL show that the "I deserved it; My love will change him; Even WITHOUT help, he won't do it again" mentality eventually leads to deadly consequences. BOTH need help! I'm old enough to remember the reputation O. J. had, with his FIRST wife/ college sweetheart, as an abuser. That was "forgotten" with his Hertz ads with his mother. You're so busy giving Chris a pass and underplaying the crisis for BOTH of them that you are forgetting that Rhiannah's FATHER says that her family supports her going back to Chris. There's no mystery in where she learned her place and value as a woman. A worthy FATHER/ male should be outraged. Male thugs kill when they are disrepected by a wrong look? No reconcilliation? There are now laws in place to protect people like Rhiannah from herself and the advice of people like you, P. Diddy, and her father, which allows the law to prosecute battery and abuse when the parties involved don't want to. The laws are based on what is KNOWN to happen if someone does not stop the violence, not on decisions based in low self-esteem and arrogant egotism. Finally, a shout out to the person who reminded us of Bill Cosby's
efforts to help change the mentality of acceptance of this kind of behavior ( as Oprah has also tried for decades). It's sadder still that there are STILL so many of you out there who trivialize the issue.

I am very surprised at Oprah Winfrey taking side before the court case is heard. From the story so far something is very wrong. It states that while driving, Chris did a lot of fighting. Rihanna did nothing. At first they said that Chris got out of the car and started walking. Which is it? If we can run the tape back to that day. Later that night after the awards, some on the Red carpet were asked if they heard what happen and a lot of them stated that earlier during lunch, Rihanna was mad at Chris and hit him while they were sitting at the table. People didn’t think anything about it because they said they start kissing and making up after she argued about his phone calls during the lunch. I think both of them need to be told not to put their hands on anyone. Just because she is a female does not make everything she says correct. Was Chris driving and pushing her away from hitting him. How did he bit her fingers while driving? Did she at anytime hit him because of the phone calls. Oprah needs to reach out to both of them. I can’t see anyone hitting someone just because they had a call earlier. Sounds fishy to me, just to jail another brother without knowing what he said happened. We haven’t heard from him yet. Question America- What’s the difference between a man hitting a women and a man giving a women Drug’s that can kill her body? This question is for some of the artists who have bad thoughts about Chris, but have harmed women in other ways. Women know they can put their hands on a man, but a man can not hit a woman back. That’s bad. Oprah please reach out to both. If you don’t I guan tree this will happen again to Rihanna with someone else.Lets all pray from Both of them. They are very young.

Denise, I don't know if you realize it or not, but you're saying that what he did was okay as long as he was provoked, and that is so wrong! HE HAD NO REASON TO BEAT UP ON HER LIKE HE DID! Pictures don't lie and the evidence was right there.
What he did was WRONG regardless of whether she hit him or not. He overreacted and he went too freaking far and if she stays with him, he's going to do it again, unless they both get help.

Selena, What I was saying is stop beating up on someone who has not had a trial yet. We are talking about a two young people. As black people we need to wake up. We talk about fighting only when it happens. Our children need to know to keep their hand to themselves. Both male and female. We need to educate our children better. Not just when something happens. This will hurt both of them Chris and Rihanna. Who will take the chance to date either of them in the future? We need to educated children on Love, trust, and drugs. Getting ahead is the key right now. Rihanna's history states she was in the army Military during school, and with all that training and someone beats another while they are driving is really something. Black men and women need to get themselves together and try to move ahead. Same old stories. If it not fighting its drugs or killing. We are only hurting ourselves. Wake up people. Let’s not make this a Tupac and biggie issue. White people are sitting back still laughing at us hurting each other. Take a look at the movie “it’s a thin line between love and hate”, then listen to the trail and like Marsha Clarke (the lady who hated OJ) said . Rihanna might come in and say she had it coming because she hit on him first and had been doing it all day. They know more than we know and I think they both need to see a counselor. But if they can mess up another brother with our help, they are happy. We are suppose to over look Rihanna hit Chris because of a phone call. They know more of whay happen then we do, so lets wait and see what happens before judging so hard.

Did you see the injuries to her?? What do you think she did that to herself!!! Have you ever been hit by your man /lover?? The ONLY reason, if this is true about them getting back together is so it will look favorably with the Judge to suggest, she's not willing to press charges. OPRAH and anybody else with good sense would say don't go back. You don't make those kinds of mistakes with someone you alledgely love.

Chris Brown is a young stupid fool and he really know how painful it is because he say his step father used to hit his mother, so to all those people who are talking, please tell him to go and get help because he might just hit the wrong woman and get his face bashing by her brother or father...Chris Brown the big stupid fool remember you have a mother and sisters and you do not want anyone to hit them but also remember what goes around come around...I agree with Oprah love do not hurt or kill anyone, this for all the dumb ones.
