Just two months ago, Kelly Rowland shocked some – but not many – when she announced she would be professionally parting ways with longtime manager Mathew Knowles.
On March 31, 2009, after the black gossip Web site Young, Black & Fabulous broke the news that the Destiny's Child singer was dropped from the legendary Columbia Records, Rowland and the label home she's been signed to for close to 15 years released a statement saying they amicably agreed to split.
"As a solo artist, I felt the need to explore new directions, new challenges and new freedoms outside my comfort zone, and my friends and family at Columbia have been incredibly understanding about my evolution," Rowland stated, confirming the rumors.
"Kelly Rowland is one of our finest contemporary artists and a musical force to be reckoned with," said Rob Stringer, CEO of Columbia/Epic Label Music Group. "It has been a privilege and a pleasure to work with Kelly, and we will continue our working relationship with her under the Destiny's Child moniker. The decision for Kelly to seek other opportunities for her solo career was agreed upon mutually, and any reports to the contrary are false."
But don't count her out just yet. In a sharp move, and just when some in the blogosphere were ready to dismiss the 28 -year-old Grammy-winning superstar, she bounced back a few days later announcing a new television gig with Bravo.
Beyonce and Solange Fashion Transformation
In 2001, Destiny's Child won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Song for their hit single 'Say My Name.' Beyonce was 20 years old, and Solange was 15. New to superstardom, these young girls from Texas would take their time developing their sense of style.

Looking just like her mom Tina, Beyonce began her career with hair extensions based on braids, way before she would "upgrade" to lace-front wigs. Beyonce's mother's taste would continue to influence the her, as she would struggle to develop her own looks apart from her mother's sensibilities.

Working a strange mix of accessories, Beyonce used her ensemble to promote her self-penned hit 'Bootylicious.' We do what we must to reach the top! It was 2001, and still a few more years before Bey would cement her top spot without resorting to desperate fashion moves.

At the 2001 Teen Choice Awards, Beyonce and Solange fully evoked the over-the-top tacky look that became synonymous with their mother's style choices. Matching neon yellow outfits and braids in clashing shades of auburn were made worse by the wrong make-up colors. Having their mother as their stylist was quite the cross for B. and Solange to bear.

In outfits containing a range of colors in clothing, hair, make-up and accessories that defy my capacity for negative description, Solange and Beyonce attended the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards -- wearing more clothes designed by Tina Knowles. Need we say more?

As a teen, Solange grew up in the fast lane. Her braids, scarf, tee and jewelry were clothing any average girl would wear. As much as she needed to develop her sense of style as a star, Solange's deeper struggle would include developing an identity apart from her sister.

Solange and Beyonce posed together in 2002. This is an uncharacteristically dressed-down look for Bey. Do you think she still has that 'Michael Jackson's Thriller' shirt?

Through this two-tone hair sculpture in the form of a lace-front wig, Beyonce shows the world that they do indeed do things big in Texas at the 'Austin Powers In Goldmember' premiere in 2002. While Beyonce began to branch out into acting roles at this time and slightly mature in her sense of style, Solange still seemed like a non-entity totally dressed by Mom.

These two sisters made an appearance on MTV's 'TRL' in 2002 wearing distinctly different casual looks. While Beyonce took her relaxed dressing to a costume-like extreme, Solange still looked like a normal young person.

At the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, Bey gave a knockout performance and revealed what many would come to term the "Beyonce Look" in full force. The huge blond mane and over-the-top sexy outfits were here to stay.

Rowland has been tapped to host the new Bravo series 'The Fashion Show,' which is set to premiere May 7.
Joining her will be acclaimed designer Issac Mizrahi, who in recent years has fashioned more budget-friendly duds for Target. Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion Fern Mallis, who presides over Olympus Fashion Week and has appeared on the hit series 'Project Runway,' has been chosen to help judge the designs of the 15 professional designers who will compete to have their clothes sold in the retail market and win a $125,000 prize.
As if the new show wasn't enough to keep Rowland busy, she's still a huge success in Europe. Nike chose her to appear in one of their commercials abroad, where she's strutting her stuff and singing her international hit 'Work' alongside a runner.
And, in a recent interview for 'The Fashion Show' series, Rowland, who cites Alexander McQueen, Ralph Lauren and Roberto Cavalli among her favorite designers, declared that she is still recording and will be working on a new album soon.
No word yet on if she is working on a new major record label deal or if she plans to drop future releases independently. Either way, the woman Beyonce Knowles once referred to as her sister is standing tall as a real music industry 'Survivior.'

Jeeez, they will give ANYONE a TV show now. Back in 1961, FCC Chairman Newton N. Minow called TV "a vast wasteland". Too bad he can't see it now. Even a professional garbageman would be overwhelmed.

Hey Mark, do u have the talent or the look to host a television show, probably not. I'm glad for Kelly because she deserves to shine beyond Destiny's Child. As for you Mark, shut the f--- up.

Kelly was ALWAYS the more talented of the three.I remember when there were FIVE members of the group, but 2 of them were let go because of Ms. Beyonce whining to her daddy to get rid of them. Now the whole group is gone because 'Queen Be'wants to be 'ALL THAT'.Kelly is much better off without that dysfunctional family and will have a much better career while Beyonce is working the drive-thru window at Taco Hell where she belongs.

Jeremy you can't really beleive Beyonce' will ever have to work at a fast food joint. I too like Kelly better and I also feel like Beyonce' thinks its all about her however Beyonce' is doing her thing and we must give credit where credit is due.

Jeremy, you sound like you have personal issues with that family. Otherwise, how would you know, if there are dysfunctional, that they are?

Kelly is a real pretty young lady tome and she even sing better then beyonce.beyonce was only the lead singer because her daddy was the manger but if I had any say so it would've been kelly. If you notice beyonce can't dance she do the same stiff body dances all the time the girl need some new moves. The only reason she is now dancing in a body suite is because re're did it and she think the girl want jay-z she don't he wants her.Another thing ce'ce made the song if i was a boy then beyonce did the same and said the girl was jocking no be it's you locking and i really don't like you or your style stop trying you get all in the spot light and let others shine also.

I hope it all works out for Kelly. She deserves the opportunity to step out on her own and prove her value.

I have to say...good luck and best wishes for Kelly. I met Kelly and Beoynce once. I was having dinner with some friends and they passed by out table on the way out...a friend asked if they would be so kind as to pose for a picture because it was a friend's bday. Beyonce wanted to dash out of there acting like a true b@#!$ Kelly stopped her and told her she would be honored and pulled back on Beyonce...Beyonce then puts on some sunglasses like if she couldnt be bothered. Mind you this was when they were Destiny's child and not even a third of what they have become professionaly. Kelly was truely a class act..much more than Beyonce. I can't argue with how talented Beyonce is but was a nasty person. GOOD LUCK TO YOU KELLY...go do your thing and don't lose track of the person you are.
