Another music couple is calling it quits.
On April 30, Kelis, who is seven months pregnant, filed for a divorce from husband Nas, citing irreconcilable differences.
"I can confirm that she has filed for divorce," a spokesperson for the 'Milkshake' singer told Vibe magazine.
Kelis has hired high-powered attorney Laura Wasser, who represented the likes of Britney Spears, Angelina Jolie and Stevie Wonder, and is seeking spousal support, child support and joint legal and physical custody of their unborn son, according to TMZ.
The Harlem-born songstress also believes she is in ownership of separate property and may amend the divorce proceedings accordingly.
The couple, who married in 2005, reportedly separated in April, just a few months after a very excited Nas told MTV that they were expecting their first child together.
Celebrity Breakups
Damon Dash & Rachel Roy: Four Years
The marriage of the former hip hop titan and the successful fashion designer has officially run its course. Roy, who has two daughters with Dash, recently filed for divorce in NYC. Luckily for the cash-strapped Dash, she's seeking "non-monetary relief."

Wayne Brady & Mandie Taketa: Nine Years
Cheesy singer/game-show host/comedian Wayne Brady and his wife of nine years Mandie Taketa split in April 2008 after a long separation. The official reason for the divorce was "irreconcilable differences," but Mandie was probably just tired of him spontaneously breaking into song.

Tracy Morgan & Sabina Morgan: 22 Years
In 2007, Sabina Morgan threatened to divorce her well-known husband, Tracy, who spent a good part of that year with a court-ordered alcohol-monitoring bracelet around his ankle. She didn't go through with it until January of 2008. She cited the '30 Rock' star's drinking problem as her reason. Do you blame her?

Pink & Carey Hart: Two Years
They started out as an unorthodox couple -- singer Pink was the one who did the proposing to her motocross-star boyfriend, Carey Hart -- and they ended up an unorthodox divorced couple. The two say their relationship became stronger after they split in February.

Morgan Freeman & Myrna Colley-Lee: 24 Years
When Morgan Freeman got in a serious car accident on a lonely Mississippi highway back in August of '08 with a woman who was not his wife, he probably figured the cat was out of the bag. Before he left the hospital, Freeman announced he was undergoing divorce proceedings with his wife of 24 years.

Madonna & Guy Ritchie: Eight Years
The union of Madonna and director husband Guy Ritchie came to an end last fall, weeks after tabloids began speculating about an affair between Madge and baseball superstar Alex Rodriguez. The tabs aren't always wrong: Madonna and A-Rod spent quite a bit of quality time together after she and Guy officially split.

Swizz Beatz & Mashonda: Four Years
Producer Swizz Beatz and singer Mashonda's separation last year seemed like ordinary marital discord, but the situation turned scandalous when rumors surfaced that Alicia Keys might be to blame. All parties have denied the allegations, but the rumors definitely made the divorce fodder for gossip blogs.

Kanye West & Alexis Phifer: Six Years (on and off)
Kanye West has been on love lockdown since breaking his engagement with his longtime girlfriend, Alexis Phifer, back in April of 2008. After losing his mother and his girl in a matter of months, its no wonder 'Ye sounds so melancholy on '808's and Heartbreak.'

Eddie Murphy & Tracey Edmonds: A Few Days
Eddie and Tracey made a fast transition from happily married to bitterly divorced. Two weeks after an unofficial ceremony in Bora Bora on New Year's Day 2008, the couple announced their official break up. Everyone from Mama Murphy to Johnny Gill has been blamed, but only Murphy and Edmonds know the truth.

Star Jones & Al Reynolds: Four Years
They said it wouldn't last... and they were right. Star and Al's improbable union, which began in November of 2004 with a highly-publicized New York City extravaganza, ended when the former 'View' co-host filed divorce papers in March of '08. What's Al Reynolds to do now that he's no longer Mr. Star Jones?

The Queens-born MC, who also has a 15-year-old daughter from a previous relationship with author Carmen Bryant, was even thinking about a contest to help name his baby boy.
"I've been thinking about kinda putting something online: Choose his name, [where] you get a couple stacks for that. But we're thinking now," he said.
Kelis and Nas, who have collaborated musically on several songs, including Kelis' 'In Public,' met in 2002 at an MTV Video Music Awards after party thrown by Sean "Diddy" Combs. They dated for two years before tying the knot in a celebrity-studded ceremony in Atlanta on July 28, 2005.
Rumors of an impeding split have swirled for months.
Kelis' rep has asked the media "to respect her privacy during this very difficult time."
A rep for Nas was not available at press time.

I'm sad to hear this. They seemed to be made for each other and I liked the two of them. It seems marriages just are not lasting like they used to years ago. maybe people just don't take things as serious as they should. I have been married for 34 years and believe me we have had our ups and downs...but we are still together!

I am NOT surprised. Kelis is a woman who was SOCIALIZED as a TEENAGER and etc. from the 20th Century.
We were socialized to BE our BEST, so if her OPINIONS and her attitude does not suit the Men of the 21st Century .... I am sure that KELIS will come to her senses something like MONTH 9.
BOTH of THEM will LEARN to compromise.

Most of these women are no more than HH groupies, who want nothing more than to hook up with a "star," have his baby/babies and ultimately, get paid! SAD and SICK!

Those marriages are never for love. The men may be in love or a high state of lust but the women are seeking security. Get a power marriage that will enhance the career and solidify a strong economic base when the split occurs. Its just the business; giving them the business.

You said it the best way i could think possible!!!! independence within the black american woman has been misunderstood completely, in order to have a successful marriage you have to compromise, these women just want that recognition form others that she can do it all by herself, thats a mistake, thats precisely the reason why children were supposed to be conceived within the holds of marriage!!!
