Though her longtime record company, Arista, announced that Whitney Houston will release her seventh studio album on Sept. 1, the much-buzzed-about video clip – of her live performance in Kazakhstan during an anniversary concert in July of 2008 – is a classic that continues to generate commentary daily. Once known as the "Greatest Voice Of All," the former chart-topping diva braved a slew of vocal and technical troubles while singing hit songs such as 'I'm Every Woman' and 'My Love is Your Love.'

During the 40th annual GMA Dove Awards, the platinum-selling pint-size holy roller's latest opus, 'The Fight of My Life,' won the award for urban album of the year. Considered the "biggest night in gospel music," the Dove Awards is the longest running and most prestigious televised ceremony recognizing achievement in all genres of Christian and gospel music. Some of the industry's biggest acts came out for the event, which took place at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn., on April 23. According to Franklin's longtime publicist, Gwendolyn Quinn, this is the singer's 13th Dove Award honor.

Fellow Wu-Tang Clan rhyme slinger Raekwon has finally found a home with EMI Music to release his long-awaited, highly-anticipated album 'Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2' this summer. "The wait is finally over," he said in a statement. "Words cannot describe how extremely happy I am to work with EMI Music to put out my album." The album, which is the followup to Rae's 1995 classic solo debut, will feature collaborations by Dr. Dre, RZA, J Dilla, Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, Bun B, and The Game among others.
4/21/09: Smokie Norful
Gospel music dynamo Smokie Norful has a reason to smile. The Little Rock, Ark., native's latest project is the top-selling gospel album in the country. The 'Live' opus debuted at number one on Billboard's Top Gospel Albums chart this week – netting the Grammy Award winner his second chart-topping debut and third number one project. "Smokie's hard work, talent and commitment to the ministry shine through on his new album," stated Ken Pennell, president of EMI Gospel, who released the project last week. 'Live' was recorded in front of a standing room audience at the Cannon Center in Memphis, Tenn. The 10-track CD was produced by Norful and Jason Tyson and includes guest performances by Tony Award winner Heather Headley and Stellar Award winner Tye Tribbett.
4/21/09: Kanye West
With his debut Nike shoe, "The Air Yeezy," in stores, Kanye West is looking to capitalize off his new endorsement with a cameo in this year's NBA playoffs. West's latest single, 'Amazing,' with rapper Young Jeezy is featured in a new NBA playoffs commercial promoting this year's slogan: "Where amazing happens." Recently, West and Jeezy wrapped up shooting the single's video in Hawaii, which was directed by Hype Williams.
4/21/09: Keyshia Cole
R&B-singer-turned-reality-star Keyshia Cole is gearing up for yet another tour in support of her latest album, 'A Different Me.' Beginning May 13 in Cincinnati, Cole, alongside singer-songwriter Keri Hilson, The Dream, and Bobby Valentino, will hit the road for a 20-city trek. For Cole, connecting with fans through touring is the "most intimate" aspect of her career. "The most gratifying thing for me in show business is having the ability to be intimate with my fans. Singing directly to them is the most intimate thing I can do," she said in a statement. 'A Different Me' tour ends June 20 in Los Angeles.
4/21/09: T.I.
As T.I. prepares to serve his one-year sentence on May 19 for felony weapons charges, he also has plans to re-release his platinum-selling album 'Paper Trail.' 'MTV News' reports the Grammy Award-winning rapper will include five new songs, including collaborations with The Dream, Ciara and a unreleased verse from Kanye West. A release date for the project was not revealed at press time.
4/21/09: Black Eyed Peas
Back by popular demand, Grammy Award-winning group the Black Eyed Peas have finally released their latest single, 'Boom Boom Pow,' from their forthcoming album, 'The E.N.D.' According to group member Fergie, the song is "kind of to the left" for a first single, which she says transcended into the concept for the video's single. "The concept is the Peas' birth into the digital afterlife," she recently told 'MTV News.' "So the transformation is us going into a sort of birth or cocoon and coming out the other end as forms of energy. It's a parallel to the music industry. Now everything is downloaded." 'The E.N.D' (The Energy Never Dies) is set to hit stores in June.
4/21/09: LeToya Luckett
Former Destiny's Child member LeToya Luckett is readying the release of her sophomore solo album, 'Lady Love,' on June 23. True to the album's title, Luckett focuses on the many aspects of love and relationships expressed from a woman's point of view -- a topic contrary to her 2006 debut. "The first album was more about getting adjusted to being solo and finding my lane," Luckett explained to the 'Hollywood Reporter.' "It's still about soulful feel-good music. However, I didn't want to be stuck in a comfort zone. I wanted to be freer, more daring vocally and lyrically, to reflect the situations I've experienced."
4/21/09: Cam'ron
Despite being on hiatus for few years, Harlem-bred MC Cam'ron is set to make his return to the hip-hop scene next month with his new album, 'Crime Pays.' The former Dipset front man recently revealed to Billboard that he's taking advantage of the World Wide Web to help generate interest for the project. "The idea was to put out a video every week to warm people up to the album," he said. "I didn't care about putting out singles. I just wanted people to know the album was coming. That's what I love about the Internet. Instead of having to wait on radio to play your song or TV to play your video, I can use the Internet as a tool to get my music out earlier." 'Crime Pays,' which features 'I Used to Get It in Ohio' and 'Cookies and Apple Juice,' hit stores May 12 via Asylum Records.
4/21/09: Sean "Diddy" Combs
Multifaceted media mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs recently landed an upcoming role in 'Get Him to the Greek.' The Nicholas Stoller-directed film, which also stars Russell Brand, finds Combs playing the role of Sergio, a record label executive, while Brand plays an out-of-control rock star named Aldous Snow. 'Get Him to the Greek' is scheduled to hit theaters next year.

I definitely agree with "DimePiece." Her notes were so flat, and off key. She may have dig one good "riff" in the song. She struggled to hit her notes. Her background singers were completely horrible in blending with her. The band was off, and the singing was off beats. The mics were giving feedback. I was completely embarrassed for Whitney Houston, the background singers, the band, and the sounds guys. HORRIFIC!!!!!

A. Will,
You wanna know what was funny, the background singers knew they were out of tune and they were all lookin at each other just a laughin? While Whitney was singin, you can see the background singers laughing at her. It reminded me of the "The Apollo". I was picturing in my mind, someone comin on the stage and dragin her off stage. Speakin of "The Appolo Show", does anybody now if there are any new tapings of the TV? I noticed 6 to 8 months ago, the show no longer came on TV? That was my show!

Yes, this was a year ago and I saw this on Youtube and the performance was one of the first that she attempted when she came from rehab. I too, was saddened and embarrassed for Whitney because she not only looked nervous but scared as hell of how the audience was going to react. I do also know that since then she has been working with a voice specialist to get her vocals back strong. Will she ever sound as young and vibrant like when we first heard her? No! Will she ever be able to hit her high notes? I'm not sure! What we can't take away from her is that she has made her mark in the music industry and she will never be duplicated. I believe she just may surprise us just like Mariah Carey did when many said she was through and couldn't do it. Mariah does not sound the same but she is not gone eiter. I agree with the poster on the statement, " We Fall Down But We Get Up." All of us have gone through some things in our life and our trials and experiences make us stronger by God's grace and Mercy. So, for that I thank God Whitney is still alive and appears to be more humble than before. Sometimes it takes losing everything for you to appreciate what God has blessed you with. I still am a fan of Whitney through the good, the bad and the ugly. For when it comes down to it she is still human and is not exempt from the hurts, pains, miskews, struggles, addictions, ridicules of this world. There will be many who will be against her but what has kept her has been soley God and God alone. No matter what we think of her be it good or bad. Yes, we are entitled to our opinions of her but honestly could we have stood on that stage knowing that our voice wasn't were it used to be and try to perform for an audience or fans who have awaited to hear from her for so long. I think not. It is easy to judge and say what we would have done or not done but until you have personally walked in that persons shoes or been where they've been it is impossible to say what you would actually do. Whitney, God bless you on your journey in life and your recovery. Only time will tell what your vocals will sound like and only God truly knows were you will be from here on out. Peace and One Luv 2 U!

By: WHY WHY WHY!?!?!?!?! on 6/05/2009 4:17PM
Why on earth do the record label think they can bring Whitney back? The wonderful wigs, make-up, and sparkly gowns back drops are over for Whitney. Give it up already. She is a HAS BEEN like Janet, Michael, and the rest of the crew. Stop trying to re-invent Whitney. She self destructed herself. She needs the rehab herself out of the lights and the media attention. She is making a spectacle of herself, of course in another country, to see how they react. They would never let her embarass herself on stage in the US. I just don't know why her family don't help her, but maybe she don't want it.....thats just my 2 cents. poor Whitney

i think we as people of the world shouldnt be so judgemental, she has struggled through something you and no one else could ever imagine and i find it insensitive to down her like that. why dont you try putting yourself in her shoes.i think it is very brave of her to get back out there and do her thing. i must agree with tarsha she was scared and didnt know how her fans would react toward her,yes im sure she knows her vocals arent where it use to be,but she is trying to better herself.so instead of putting her down why dont we wish her for the best and cheer her on for trying to overcome all the criticism that she has had to endure all these years and for trying to change her image that has been trashed because of her mistakes that we as people have no right to judge.we are so quick to judge but dont want to be judged.

Yall, I had to watch it again. You know when you watch something so funny, you have to watch it over and over again you will find things in a video you didn't see before? Did anyone see when Whitney looks paranoid, walking across the stage, pulling her dress up, stops singing in the middle of the song of "I'm Every Woman", and picks up her one foot and looks at her shoe? What the hell was that about? Was she trippin and seen bugs or something crawling on the stage? After that song, she's talking, singing, and her voice is "ECHOING" all over the place. I felt like I was trippin right along with her? Then she had to sing "It's All Right"? She really thought she was in Jamaica smoking a blunt? Trippin all over the words of her song. Whitney was a hot mess. Child,
"IT'S NOT ALL RIGHT"!

Hey DimePiece...It does remind me of the Apollo "WHOP, WHOP". and the Apollo show started going down after Monique stopped hosting! They tried letting Whoppi host it and it was wack! But Whitney is high, and she don't even care...Well at least she looked nice! lolol

Hey A. Will
WHOMP, WHOMP. Monique was good on there but to me, she over did it. The last two black comedians last year was funny as heck. I liked the two black comedians last year that hosted. I hope soon, it will return back on TV? I miss APOLLO? Yes, Ms. Whitney looked nice but that was it.
