Kerry Washington
is ready to make her Broadway debut this fall.

The 'Lakeview Terrace' star will star in David Mamet's upcoming play 'Race,' set to start previews at New York City's Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Nov. 17.

Producers are keeping mum about the actual plot of the show, which also stars James Spader and Richard Thomas ,and will mark Mamet's 12th play on Broadway.

"I don't know how much I'm allowed to say outside of it being a brand new play from David Mamet [but] it's interesting," Washington told BlackVoices.com during an interview this week.

The Bronx native, who wowed mainstream movie audiences in the Academy Award winning 2005 Ray Charles biopic, said she is "thrilled" about this latest career move.
"... Growing up in New York, I spent my childhood going to the theater for special occasions, like a birthday or graduation; so it's a really lifelong dream of mine to be on Broadway and I feel so lucky to be doing it with this playwright and this director," she said.

Mamet, the Tony and Academy Award-nominated, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of 'Glengarry Glen Ross,' had the distinction of being the creator of two headline-generating Broadway productions last year on Broadway. Both shows ('American Buffalo' and 'Speed The Plow') attracted sought-after Hollywood actors such as Jeremy Piven, John Leguizamo, Cedric The Entertainer and William H. Macy.

"He's a man whose work I've admired for a long time," Washington added. "It's almost surreal and kinda exciting."

"I get to do it in my hometown, which is even better," she concluded.

With a repertoire including some television ('Boston Public'), the acclaimed indie films ('Our Song,' 'Lift') two films starring Sir Anthony Hopkins ('Bad Company,' 'The Human Stain'), and two Spike Lee movies ('She Hate Me,' 'Miracle at St. Anna'), the Spence School alum has built a reputation as one of the most talented actresses of her generation.

Not bad for the first nine years into this L'Oreal cosmetics spokeswoman's near decade long career.

With a good run in 'Race,' in which she will portray a lawyer, a few more decades of career are sure to come.
