Joe Jackson, the father of late, great entertainment icon Michael Jackson arrived at the '2009 BET Awards' earlier tonight at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
The show was revamped within the last 48 hours to pay tribute to Jackson, who died June 25 a the age of 50.
CNN's very own Don Lemon attempted to interview Jackson, 80, before the show and it resulted in quite a peculiar discourse where Jackson introduced the late King of Pop's attorney L. Londell McMillan, an unnamed spokesperson who read a statement from the family and his current business partner – a co-record company owner who plugged a new blu-ray project.

I agree with the comment about the OJays, New Edition, Tevon Campbell, Tyrese, Johnny Gill, Trey Songz,Jamie Fox and the always beautiful Janet Jackson, being the highlight of the so called tribute to the King of Pop. BET should be ashamed of themselves for allowing such disrespect to continue to be displayed on their Network. It is time that we stand as the proud people that God created us to be and stop allowing ignorance to dominate us. Lil Wayne, Soldier Boy, T-pain and the others who performed with Drake are a disagrace. When are we going to stop giving them a free pass to journey forward in our history as the captured slave and uncle Toms. These "little boys" who parade around with their underwear displayed for the entire world to see are poor excuses for human beings. The only reason why I watched the program is because I thought this would be a tasteful expression of our love for the "KING" but once again BET didn't disappoint me. Have some pride, dignity, self-esteem and self-love. I understand why the world view us as a race of people still harboring that Slave Mentality. "WAKE UP BLACK PEOPLE!"

The BET Awards show was an awful disappointment. I had expected the show to give a better tribute to Michael Jackson. Instead it only played tiny snippets of Michael's songs. It made me cringe.
Michael was a beautiful, kind and talented person. He gave his heart and soul to his work, and to the World. What happened BET? How could you mess this up?
Beyonce: Beyonce's performance was selfish and boring. She did NOT sing ONE song by Michael. And as she held up her award so proudly, she barely made any reference to Michael Jackson. I am so ashamed. That was classless.
Joe Jackson: I would not be parading up and down any red carpet if my son had just passed away. Your actions are very disturbing, but not surprising. Joe, you tortured Michael. Joe, just SHUT UP!
Michael, thank you for giving the World so much joy and happiness. We love you and miss you so much. May God bless your soul.
R.I.P. Michael Jackson

I am finished with BET. It is ignorance personified. I think the show was horrible, the comments embarrassing and disrespectful and the true vocal talent non-existent. Except for Neyo, they all sounded terrible. What were we showcasing the miracle work of technology? Jamie Foxx wasn't funny at all. His comments about Michael's tight pants had a boa constrictor inside was insulting. The producers of that show should be fired and BET should wrap it up!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know we all feel Joe was behaving badly....However, I wish we could raise our kids like we use to ....Maybe half would not be in jail,on crack, disrespecting our elders, and themselves

There's a balance. Serena Williams, Tiger Woods both had parents that pushed them, but they also gave them love and allowed them play time and time to develope. They seem to have turned out very well.
Joe just crossed the line and he acts nuts.

Joe Jackson is a self serving idealist. His children are his money making schemes. Micheal was an icon whose talents went way beyond what Joe had expected. Joe's chest is big because he believes Michael's accomplishments are his own. He was better off not attending the event and keeping his mouth shut. I was happy to see Janet step in for the family and express their grief. Goodness knows Joe could not do it, because it is not in him. He makes the family look bad, period. I hope Jackson's children are not raised with his involvement. The show was horrible. If this is the type of music and music acts that we have to look forward to, then black music is dead. It was disgraceful to a music legend. Where did the acts come from? As hard as Michael worked to please his fans/artistic fans, more consideration should have been taken when deciding to make a tribute to such a fantastic artist. I hope the better artists do it right. Anyway, after hearing all the artists speak about Michael's death, where were they during his trial and other times of need? He should have been supported way beyond now! I love you Micheal!

Deb the sad part about it is he is not resting in peace. I agree with Krist there is no way he would have wanted his kids with his DAD at least I think the mom will be ok if she didnt have Joe i believe she is afraid of him.

Although I did not like some of the performances I realize they only had a couple of days to put something together. I think the comments of the winners coming up and each one of them said something beautiful made up for the lack luster performances. Jamie Foxx--please don't ever moondance again.
Don't be ashamed--the entire world, black, white, brown, is mourning right along with you. I am certain someone is going to step up to the plate and pay MJ a tribute fit for a true king of pop.
Be at peace with the legacy of love and music he left us in this world. My heart aches for his children. I pray for them.

First and foremost I would like to pay my respects to the KING MECHEAL.YOU ARE AND YOU WAS WOUDERFUL INSIDE AND OUT. YOU WILL FOREVER REMAIN IN MY HEART AS A MAN WILL STYLE, CREATIVE, AND LOVING FOR THAT YOU ARE TRUELY ONE OF A KIND!!!!!!. Now far as Joe Jackson he was so wrong I can't even think of a reason to why he even showed his face at the Bet Awards, It's so sad that that black men make the statement of A MOTHER'S BABY AND A DADDY MAYBE. through it all a father should have been holding the family together but he left it up to the wife instead.
I'm mostly upset that the media keeps bringing up his past such as the the situation with the childeren and how much debt he in. However it's sad to say that this is the United States of American and while you live on this f*** up world you come in paying and you leave out paying so why the hell does it matter how much money he owes or how much he got left he's got left he has died so leave him at peace and for those who didn't get paid and took him through all the BS since you conitune to think like sad ass spoil ass Americans get your money out of his ass
R.I.P THE KING OF POP
