The MTV Video Music Awards are always full of surprises, some staged and some altogether shocking. This year's annual award show was no exception.
Janet Jackson opened the show giving a stellar performance in honor of her brother Michael, but the 'Scream' tribute was largely overshadowed by another controversial outburst by Kanye West.
The Chicago-born MC jumped on-stage during country singer Taylor Swift's acceptance speech for Female Video of the Year.
(See Video Clip Below.)
He grabbed the microphone from Swift and said "Yo Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'll let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!"
Cameras panned to a shocked Beyonce, and West jumped down from the stage.
The Grammy Award-winner was seen on the red carpet with a Hennessy bottle in his hand. West and his date, girlfriend Amber Rose were escorted from the award show shortly after his outburst. Rolling Stone reports that Swift was in tears and visibly upset backstage after the fiasco.
Shortly after his dismissal from the event West took to his blog and issued a statement regarding his actions:
"I'm soo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom. I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother would've said. She is very talented! I like the lyrics about being a cheerleader and she's in the bleachers! I'm in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment! Beyonce's video was the best of this decade!!! I'm sorry to my fans if I let you guys down!! I'm sorry to my friends at MTV. I will apologize to Taylor tomorrow. Welcome to the real world!! Everybody wanna boo me but I'm a fan of real pop culture!! No disrespect but we watchin' the show at the crib right now cause... well you know!! I'm still happy for Taylor!! Booyaaawww!! You are very very talented!! I gave my awards to Outkast when they deserved it over me... that's what it is!! I'm not crazy yall, I'm just real. Sorry for that!! I really feel bad for Taylor and I'm sincerely sorry!! Much respect!!"
Nevertheless, Beyonce was alongside a bevy of dancer to perform her 'Single Ladies' single. Tennis pro Serena Williams, who made headlines the day before for outburst at the US Open, introduced Pink who performed her hit song 'Sober' while strapped on a trapeze.
Kid Cudi dedicated a performance of 'Poke Her Face' to his friend DJ AM. Wale and Solange Knowles also performed small sets before commercial breaks.
Beyonce accepted her Video of the Year VMA award for 'Single Ladies' and said that she wanted Taylor Swift to have her moment. Swift said, "Maybe we can try this again" and gave a full acceptance speech for Female Video of the Year.
Jay-Z closed the show with 'Empire State of Mind' with Alicia Keys.

9/2/09: Jay-Z
It was only a matter of time before Jay-Z's forthcoming album, 'The Blueprint 3,' would leak. The hip hop mogul's latest project has managed to make its way on to the streets (and the web) a week prior to release. And the man also known as "Hova" doesn't seems to be too fazed by the bootlegging. "My pager is actually ringing right now, so people are probably calling me and telling me they pretty much like it," he told 'MTV News.' "I can tell by the way my pager rings if a song is good or not. It's really going crazy right now." Jay-Z said the album is a classic! "The whole thing about this album, how I approached it, is that I wanted to make a new classic to start that all over again - to go back to making classic albums like the ones we grew up listening to." 'The Blueprint 3' officially will be on sale Sept. 11.

9/2/09: Kem
Neo-soul crooner Kem has been steadily recording his third project, 'Album III: Intimacy' over the past few years, and apparently the fans will have to wait a little longer for its release. "We have a lot of orchestration on the new record," the Detroit native recently told Billboard. "It's taking longer than anyone would like. I'd love to just flesh it out and put it in the hands of the people immediately, but I just want to make sure that what I'm doing is right. We're trying to make a record that people will not soon forget."

With her latest opus 'Persona' currently in stores, hip hop's empress Queen Latifah has chosen to burn some rubber for the video of her new song, 'Fast Single.' The song's video clip features performances by Missy Elliott, Common, and Robin Thicke alongside his wife and actress, Paula Patton, who all got a chance to get behind the wheel in their own individual Ford Mustangs. As for Latifah, nailing everyone for the video was less hectic than expected. "I just asked them," she told 'MTV News' while filming the clip at Wall Township Speedway in South Belmar, New Jersey. 'Persona' is executive-produced by Cool and Dre and features appearances Mary J. Blige, Marsha Ambrosius, and Busta Rhymes among others.

WOAH !! PEOPLE ARE WE SUPPOSE TO BE IN THE U. S OF A? IS THIS NOT THE LAND OF FREEDOM OF SPEECH? THEN WHY IS IT THAT EVERYONE IS JUMPING ON KANYE'S BACK ABOUT WHAT HE TRUELY FELT...IT IS NOT KANYE WHO IS THE IDIOT HERE...I AM BI-RACIAL I AM JUST AS FAIR AS THE NEXT PERSON BUT IT SEEMS TO ME YOU ALL ARE THE ONES WHO ARE PRE-JUDGING. THE MAN SIMPLY STATED HIS OPINION. ACCEPT IT OR LEAVE IT. BLACK PEOPLE ALWAYS TRY TO JUSTIFY WHAT WHITE PEOPLE KNOW IS UNFAIR BUT WHITE FOLK DO NOT REALLY CARE WHAT YOU THINK. SO WHY ARE YOU HOLDING UP FOR SOMETHING THAT YOU KNOW WAS UNFAIR IN THE BEGINNING? THE MAJORITY OF BLACK PEOPLE ARE AFRAID OF THEIR OWN SHADOWS...HOW SAD BUT ATLEAST KANYE STOOD UP AND SAID WHAT HE FELT AT THE TIME. I HAPPEN TO THINK THAT HIS MOM WOULD BE PROUD OF HIM FOR HAVING THE COURAGE TO SPEAK HIS MIND. ARE WE TEACHING OUR CHILDREN TO DO THE SAME OR DO WE TEACH THEM TO HIDE THEIR THOUGHTS BEFORE PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY ARE AFRAID TO SPEAK. WHAT A PITY BLACK PEOPLE AND IT DID NOT TAKE ANYTHING FROM THE MICHAEL JACKSON TRIBUTE. THAT WAS THE ONLY PART THAT WAS REALLY FAIR IN THIS WHOLE MTV EVENT.

He's such a childish embarrassment as usual. I thought Kanye had gone through a maturation earlier this year by admitting how arrogant he had acted in the past and now he pulls this. The same kind of crap he pulled at the MTV Europe awards a few years ago when he didn't win. Can't blame it on his mom's passing. He's been doing this long before she left the earth. He's just a boy and not ready to take responsibility. Didn't even apologize on the award show but does it on Twitter. Like a boy.

Kanye West, and yet another display of complete ignorance and disrespect! this dude thinks the world revolves around him. What a dunderhead! What did he expect, a standing ovation for not only interrupting Tyler's speech but humiliating Taylor Swift as well as Beyonce? That act astounds me, I find it hard to believe that people can be that ignorant and blatantly STUpiD.
