2009 BET Hip Hop Awards: The Blacks Love Kanye West

Although he's having one hell of a week getting bashed by what seems to be everyone in the mainstream media – since calling out MTV during Taylor Swift's award acceptance speech, Kanye West may have a better shot at love from the black community.

BET just announced that he has garnered nine nominations for 'The BET Hip Hop Awards '09.'

The Def Jam Records rap superstar leads the pack of nominees, which also includes Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, Young Jeezy, T-Pain, T.I., Fabolous and Drake.

According to a rep for the network, the Hip-Hop Awards Voting Academy is comprised of journalists, industry executives, and fans. West is competing in categories such as "Best Live Performer," "Hustler of the Year" and "Producer of the Year."

Hip hop veteran Ice Cube will be honored with the "I AM HIP-HOP" Icon Award. Past recipients of the prestigious award include Grandmaster Flash, KRS ONE and Russell Simmons.

Comedian Mike Epps will host the show, which is scheduled to premiere Oct. 27 at 8:00 p.m.
